Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 25, 2009 12:40 pm Hi Everybody,
I've been reading this forum almost everyday since January last year, when we first purchased the block of land. Since then we have just been waiting for the land to be released. We were promised it would be August 2008 but didn't happen until January 09. We signed the building contract way back in June though and its a good thing we did as the house price has gone up by $25,000! The extras we got were pretty good too. So far everything has been really good with NBG. We had our colour selection appointment on the 3rd of March and they were very helpful and friendly. The builder we have assigned has been really good too, and we were informed that our plans were submitted to council this morning! So hoping that there is not long to go now. I have attached pics of our colours and plans for all to look at so feel free to make any comments 1. The house plan, major change is the kitchen 2. Our bathroom & ensuite colours. The paint colour shown (China Doll) will be used throughout the house. The silver is the kickboard under the vanity. The dark brown (luxe mocha) is the feature tile and the white (linea grey) is the wall tile with hampton putty for the floors 3. The kitchen colours. Have pearl dust for the overhead cupboards, and loft oak for the bottom cupboards with the same kickboard colour. Used the capscium red forthe glass splashback. We will be painting one of the walls in the living area with this colour as well. 4. Our brick colour. Rattan, it looks more brown than the pic. Using colourbond jasper for the gutter and downpipes, and windows and paperbark for the garage door and front door. We want to put plantation shutters later one, so we didnt want the windows and mouldings to stand out and take attention away. http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/1613 ... ebrick.jpg Re: Building the NBG Ellington 25E 2Mar 25, 2009 1:08 pm Hi there, It is good to see another fellow NBG mate that is having a positive experience so far. We have gone for some similar choices including hampton putty tiles which I love and can't stop looking at. We are also using the luxe mocha as a feature tile to both showers. Is your kitchen benchtop Blanco City, if so we have gone with that also. I love your colour choices. We loved our colour selectopn appt and were impressed with the choices available in the standed range. Goodluck with coucncil. Will be keen to read some updates. Re: Building the NBG Ellington 25E 3Mar 25, 2009 4:05 pm Nice plan and colours. Hope all goes well with council and the build Re: Building the NBG Ellington 25E - site scraped 4May 14, 2009 12:34 pm Well after a year and 4 months of waiting, there is finally some action!!!! i have never been so happy and excited to see a portable toilet before in my life lol! Hopefully things will get moving now coz i sure have had enough of waiting. I have learnt a lot of valuable information from this forum that has been a big help in many things we decided to do during the initial phase. I've added a shot of the land a few months back and one i took yesterday with the site scraped, temp fence etc. We were told that plumbing should start today so will be back there over the weekend for more photos. If you check out our thread you will see some of our similar colour choices. I wish now we had picked a red splashback, and can't wait to see yours. We are past lock up stage so will soon see some of these colours take shape in our house. Will look forward to keeping up with your updates Re: Building the NBG Ellington 25E - site scraped 6May 14, 2009 1:00 pm Thank you for the reply I did notice the similarities, i will be watching your thread closely to see how things go, its hard to imagine what it will all look like together until you see it, hopefully its not too far off for you. was a bit worried about adding the red at first, but i love it now, i cant wait to see it up. i love your facade it looks really good Re: Building the NBG Ellington 25E - site scraped 7May 14, 2009 1:05 pm Where abouts in Melbourne are you building? I agree with you about NBG bonus offers. We got the July offer which included the spa bath, and I can't wait to cook with the blanco kitchen appliances. We have decided we will use red as a central theme for decorating throughout the house which should go well with our colour choices. Make sure you take lots of pics for us to enjoy Re: Building the NBG Ellington 25E - site scraped 8May 14, 2009 1:38 pm We're building in Deer Park. I like your idea of using red as the central theme for decorating, that will definitely work. I can understand the feeling of wanting to cook with those blanco appliances, i have forgotten what its like to have my own kitchen and space. We moved in with my parents once we bought the land and it feels like we've been living with them for such a long time, hasn't been easy with a 2yo running around. Will definitely be taking lots of photos whenever i get the chance, atm we live about an hours drive away, so i think the only chance ill get to visit is over the weekend, i think if i lived close by, i would be camped outside most of the time! Re: Building the NBG Ellington 25E - site scraped 9May 14, 2009 1:48 pm Funny you say that, we are renting literally a 30 second drive from our build so we are ferquent flyers (but always after hours). This is the first week things have slowed for us in a while and I am not coping I was really impressed with our colour consultant, can't recall her name but she was super talk and skinny. She guided us along without making decisions for us if you know what I mean. Re: Building the NBG Ellington 25E - site scraped 10May 14, 2009 5:48 pm mundie mansion we are renting literally a 30 second drive from our build so we are ferquent flyers Our colour consultant was also very helpful and friendly, i think her name was kaylee, i thought it was good that she suggested ideas of her own that we hadn't thought of while keeping with the look we wanted. Overall our colour appt was a good and enjoyable experience. Even though the house isn't even up yet, we have already purchased the light fittings, thought i would post a pic of those as well. You are certainly one step ahead of us Re: Building the NBG Ellington 25E - site scraped 12May 14, 2009 6:22 pm Great to see that you have started with the build Abbey_aj Very nice choices with the light fittings also.. Looking forward to all the pics of your build and hope it will go smoothly for you Re: Building the NBG Ellington 25E - site scraped 13May 14, 2009 10:49 pm Congrats on the start of your build....ours has been a long process too, so l can totally get (well not quite, we haven't quite started yet, lol) just how exciting it is to see the build finally happen. Love your colour choices and the lightfittings. The red splashback is going to look awesome. Good luck for a smooth build and l'm looking forward to following your progress and seeing plenty of pics Re: Building the NBG Ellington 25E - site scraped 14May 18, 2009 5:56 pm We love the colour of our vanities and I can tell you the cupboards will look good in your kitchen. It really is hard to know how all the colours will work together isn't it. Time will tell for us Re: Building the NBG Ellington 25E - site scraped 15May 18, 2009 8:21 pm Thorney: thank you, it is definitely exciting, hopefully you get to experience that soon. REally hoping that the red splashback does look good, we'll just have to wait and c. Mundie mansion: Your cupboard colours do look great, im feeling a lot more confident of the choices we made seeing yours come together looking forward to seeing more pics We weren't able to go past the land this weekend, but hoping ill get the chance tomorrow, so hopefully will have more pics then. Re: Building the NBG Ellington 25E - site scraped 16May 20, 2009 1:11 pm Well went past the block last night, and nothing has happened.
What i did see last night was progress on my parents block, their fence went up on the 15th and they are now getting their slab prep done. They are deifnitley winning the race atm Re: Building the NBG Ellington 25E - nothing since 11th! 17May 20, 2009 1:40 pm Sorry to hear nothing has happened That happened to us after the slab was poured. I0 days of nothing then it all happened quickly. It has been quiet for us this week too. Unfortunately it is out of your hands. Patience is a good thing and yes, you will calm down and forget the hold up once things start rolling again. We just casually touch base with our SS without sounding pushy to get the odd update. I know this will not make you feel any better now but just hang in there. Re: Building the NBG Ellington 25E - nothing since 11th! 18May 20, 2009 2:17 pm yeah i guess all i can do is wait patiently. Im just waiting for the stage where you feel like things are rolling, that would definitely be a nice change from this constant waiting and delay. Hopefully things start moving quickly for you again too. I think that once you get near to finishing off, it would feel like the start and would want things to move along and finish. Right now all i can do is dream of progress, i woke up this morning and realised i had a dream that our slab was done and that the frame was starting and that i made a mistake with the address of the land last night! lol Re: Building the NBG Ellington 25E - nothing since 11th! 19May 21, 2009 2:27 pm Hey Abbey_aj, Just caught up on your thread good colour selections and light fittings too. Looking forward to following your build. Cheers Land Settled 27/04/09. Site Started 30/4/09. Slab poured 21/5/09. Frame up 27/5/09. Building thread : viewtopic.php?f=31&t=15699 Re: Building the NBG Ellington 25E - nothing since 11th! 20May 21, 2009 6:21 pm It can be quite disheartening when you drive past especially with such a long distance and see nothing happen for some time There were 4 days where nothing happend once the frame had been completed and I was dreading the drive and it is not that far for me only to be disappointed, must have been spoilt with all the work leading up to no work I have been told by the trades people with my build that they say once "they" get going, it all happens very quickly, it's just frustrating when there is no progress. Fingers crossed for you Abbey_aj that things get moving with your build and you shall have heaps of pics to post here yeah i couldnt picture it issue either, but i could clearly picture what they were doing wrong haha 2 6174 Our 6m high Cathedral ceiling has 0 insulation, just plaster, wrap and tiles as far as I can tell.
