Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 24, 2009 3:23 pm Hi Everyone! Just had a small issue with our builder (Plantation) and I don’t really know if to let it go or not. We have a sewer line running near the back boundary. Our survey plans indicated that we had to build a 20-40cm high retaining wall across the right hand side of our block and that it would end up "over" the sewer line. Then due to the fact that the retaining wall ran over the sewer line at the back, Plantation told us that we NEEDED to have our retaining wall engineered and that it would cost $660 if it was organised by them. They also informed us of an additional $400 Council cost for sewer line related applications. Fine – we accepted this and got Plantation to arrange the engineering of the small retaining wall – which if it wasn’t running over a sewer line would only need engineering if over 1 metre. Today we were told by Plantation that the Private Certifier said we don’t need to submit a sewer application or need it to be engineered. Well we were pretty annoyed at this. $660 just because the builder got it wrong? We emailed our Consultant and they said its “good building practice to have it engineered”. What the?? If we don’t legally have to we ARE following the building practice! What would anyone else here do? Worth pursuing? Or just let it go and know that because it is engineered now it’s probably better off? That $660 was spent on the advice of Plantation that you must have engineering design done... It's a stuff up on thier part and they should cop it... I don't think you will get away from the $400 as that will be general Council sewer application fee... Electrical Engineer... Don't hold that against me... And keen owner builder... Mainly the building part!! Re: Small Issue with Builder (Plantation) 3Mar 26, 2009 7:48 am Thanks for your reply chuth! Well it was the private certifier who said we dont need to pay the council sewer application fee We actually did get the credit back in our PCV for that which is good. But the stupid engineered wall which isn't needed due to not needing to submit a sewer application to council is just frustrating. The problem why it's difficult is that they paid a 3rd party to engineer the wall and are very against refunding it Our Blog! http://cityplantation.blogspot.com | Building the Havana 485 with Plantation Homes (Henley) the conduit would need to be undamaged regardless of what network is in play. The conduit needs to be able to have fibre run through it. NBN and Opticomm are just… 4 2890 thanks Chippy, i hope they have applied sealer but i am doubt to be honest, so i am gonna do this job after handover. 8 16291 |
