Re: Where should the carpet and tiles meet? 42Mar 24, 2009 7:03 pm I have seen it in an open plan house with full tiling, and this carpet *rug* was in the lounge only. Very effective. If you don't locate an image let me know and I will try and get a photo for you if interested. Re: Where should the carpet and tiles meet? 43Mar 24, 2009 7:27 pm In our old house, we initially carpeted the hallway that led to the kids' rooms and bathroom/toilet, with the idea that it would be less noisy, and warmer underfoot for littlies just out of bed. That turned out to be a BIG mistake - the carpet wore very badly, thanks to the high volume of traffic. So when we renovated, we tiled all the way up the hallway. I figured if their feet were cold, they'd wear their damn slippers! In this house, we did the same thing, continuing the floorboards from the living area up the hallway. As for access to a toilet from outdoors when entertaining, we added french doors to the ensuite, and we just unlock those so guests can simply step in from the al fresco area. I don't know which option would look better if you do the carpet/tile meeting thing though. Sorry. Re: Where should the carpet and tiles meet? 45Mar 24, 2009 7:32 pm We have those doors as well to the ensuite. I think they are just lovely. The thing is I don't know if mum wants my drunken friends in her ensuite! When she's sleeping!!! I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Where should the carpet and tiles meet? 46Mar 24, 2009 8:08 pm Option 3 without a doubt. If you need to replace the carpet in the playroom for whatever reason, it will be very difficult with options 1 & 2. Re: Where should the carpet and tiles meet? 47Mar 24, 2009 8:47 pm Option 3 joles, even now my son at 22 ruins the hall carpet to his bedroom, we have replaced that section twice in 12 years and had it cleaned 5 times. Boys are destroyers of carpet....it's their job Re: Where should the carpet and tiles meet? 48Mar 24, 2009 9:10 pm I voted for number 3. Thought I'd put a reply in here but obviously I must have hit the wrong button. I really couldn't handle carpet going along outside the bathrooms, loo or laundry. I would even consider tiling the entire kids activity room. Great for spills and easy cleanups. Joles we've opted to tile the kids activity room which for us is right next to the laundry and near the loo and bathroom. BUT we have tiled in cork. An expensive option for an activity room. However if we've had ceramic tiles I would have done the same. You could always put down an inexpensive rug if you are worried about the floor being too cold. easy enough to replace if need be. But at your sons age he is almost passed the ****** fully on the floor stage anyway. Re: Where should the carpet and tiles meet? 49Mar 25, 2009 12:43 pm I voted for 3. Tiles!
