Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 24, 2009 8:26 am Following the success of my last 'which colour door' poll, I thought I'd try my luck one more time. We had asked for all the woodwork on the stairs to be painted white, but the painters have done the handrail in stain. Not sure which would look better now though. Any opinions? Let me know when you get bored of my polls Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ C&G -------------------------------- A new building chapter begins.. Re: Which colour handrail? 2Mar 24, 2009 8:30 am I love polls. Can we have more information? What type of flooring for the stairs and for the ground floor around the stairway. This will influence my response. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Which colour handrail? 3Mar 24, 2009 8:32 am joles I love polls. There will be brown carpet on the stairs, and the hall floor will be tiled in a light coloured tile. C&G -------------------------------- A new building chapter begins.. Re: Which colour handrail? 10Mar 24, 2009 9:11 am I voted white today considering flooring, and agree with haywgl that I would have changed to stained if there were timber stairs. (FYI: I voted the darker door yesterday too!) Re: Which colour handrail? 11Mar 24, 2009 9:13 am i chose wood I would have loved to have my hand rail the same colour as my front door but then with kids i know the wouldnt have looked after it! After 4 years - we're in! Re: Which colour handrail? 14Mar 24, 2009 9:42 am I vote for the wood. I thinks it makes a feature out of your stairs. That stain will go with your tiles and with the carpet. I think it makes it look more $$$$ too Living in Caloundra Thread****** Lovin my house all finished!!! I agree with mellybuilding that it makes it look more expensive. It looks fancy. I think the white blends in too much with the walls and cupboard door. Building in Brisbane SW Suburbs Started on site with plumbing on 30/3 - Lock up 2/5 - 15/6 Recd Fixing Invoice - 18/6 Painter to start ! Re: Which colour handrail? 16Mar 24, 2009 10:49 am I voted and now the votes are EVEN......... Pro and cons with both, I'd prolly wait until the floor coverings are in and check again then. The wood will hide the 'marks' better.. The white will show dirt more. I voted wood, but I don't know either !! It does depend on your furniture too, is that an entrance hall? Are you having any hall stands ? Maybe the white would look better due to the dark carpet, you have the steel uprights ? It may look a bit busy with the 5 colours so close - dark carpet, tile color, steel uprights, white ends of staircase then wood... Can you change my vote to white !!! The pro's out weight the cons. Def, white Re: Which colour handrail? 18Mar 24, 2009 11:13 am I think either would look nice, but l voted for the wood. As others have said it looks more elegant. If you are having any furniture nearby that is wood (hall table, pics with wooden frames etc) then it'll all tie in nicely. Re: Which colour handrail? 19Mar 24, 2009 11:33 am Whilst I personally love the look of timber, I voted white. I think the stained timber looks odd againts the white post. It needs to be one or the other, stained post and rail or white post and rail, but thats just my opinion 'chelle We have a hand-over date...15/10...but I won't hold my breath! http://people-in-glass-houses.blogspot.com/ Re: Which colour handrail? 20Mar 24, 2009 11:40 am If you want to keep painting the handrail year after year, then paint it. Personally, I'd keep maintenance to a minimum - no paint Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Black on light wood does look good. Not sure if it will be as long lasting as a steel finish? 6 6354 brokers will also be in a position to get you a better rate than the advertised rate most times. 6 7584 Thank you. Do I use timber floorboards for stairs or do people use timber treads? Or is both the same? 6 7302 |
