Don't assume they have taken it out, make sure you get a copy of the certificate. If you take a look at the website for either of these two insurance companies, Vero or Lumley (I think they are two of the biggest) they will have all the details about this insurance including what it covers. It only covers you if the builder becomes insolvent, dies or disappears. You can't take out this insurance yourself, the builder has to (unless you are an owner builder). Hope this helps.
