Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 23, 2009 1:13 pm We have just started building with PD and in our original sales quote we were quoted for 4 sides of temporary fencing for $992. Since sigining contracts the situation has changed, one side is now a permanent picket fence and the other side already has a temporary fence erected from our neighbour's builder (their house is a few weeks ahead of ours). So our builder has only used temp fencing on the front and the back of our block, which means we have been charged for 72m of fencing that's no longer required (the sides measure 36m each). I have emailed my CSC about this and I'm awaiting a response, but do you think that we should get a credit for what they didn't need or is it just a case of "bad luck"? Re: Cost of temporary fencing? 2Mar 23, 2009 1:31 pm i paid for 17m with ATF for 6months for about 500 bucks... so yeah i would definitely ask for 500 back...thats a nice LCD tv to put in the kitchen, its a nice set of taps you can upgrade, its a celebratory bbq for handover, its a full windows furnishing and the list goes on... ---->Some say that a recession is when your neighbour loses his/her job while a depression is when you lose yours!<----- Re: Cost of temporary fencing? 3Mar 23, 2009 1:34 pm i believe the going rate is about 8=9 dollars per meter for every six months. The fairest thing to do is divide the original cost by the original meter amount. Then mulitply by the new meter amount. They should refund you the difference. Re: Cost of temporary fencing? 4Mar 23, 2009 1:41 pm You might find you won't get a pro rata amount back as there is usually a minimum charge from the supplier regardless of how much you actually need. I had to pay a minimum amount as I only needed the front and back as well because of existing fences. My minimum charge was $450 for the minimum of 37.5m of fencing. Re: Cost of temporary fencing? 5Mar 23, 2009 2:09 pm Take some photos. I bet they just install it now that you've told them and you won't get a refund. If it was me, in instances like this, I wouldn't say anything, take heaps of photos to prove it wasn't installed, then ask for the refund later on. I'm particularly cynical about builders. They are just so *******! I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Re: Cost of temporary fencing? 8Mar 23, 2009 8:17 pm Thanks for the replies. I heard back from the CSC and she is going to check with the supervisor but said there would be a credit applied, if applicable. So we should definitely get back the cost of not needing to do the permanent fence side. Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new.
