Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 23, 2009 12:42 pm I want to build a simple 10m x 1.2m high brick front fence. I am required to obtain engineer details in order to apply for construction certificate. I got a quote from the people my builder uses who did for my house. The quote came back $550! Such a simple fence and it is so expensive!!! Is this even a reasonable price for such job? I want to get some more quotes. Should I just look up "civil engineers" and they are generally the qualified people for this?? Any advice is appreciated!! I know in victoria if you are building a fence 1.2m or lower for bricks and 1.5m or lower for wooden fence then you don't even need council approvals. alternatively, just look online for a typical engineer for fences and tell the you'll be building it to these specifications. I just used the ones my builder did for the retaining wall and it went through without problems. ---->Some say that a recession is when your neighbour loses his/her job while a depression is when you lose yours!<----- Re: Engineer details for a simple brick front fence? 3Mar 23, 2009 2:08 pm smeagol check with your council. It is correct that, for my council, for my 1.2m high fence, I shouldn't need a DA and hence not needing a construction certificate. However, I made a very very stupid mistake . I made some changes to my landscape plan and I needed to lodge a section 96 modification to my original DA. Among the changes, I added this brick fence that was not in the original DA. I was not aware of the complication involved in building this fence. Now that the modified DA is approved, I have to amend the construction certificate to include this fence and therefore needing the engineer details. Now that I know what's involved, I should not have added the fence in the section 96 and instead apply for CDC separately This is such a simple fence. I believe the cost of building the fence is just around $3k. Now, to amend the CC, engineer details, inspection of the footing, I am adding an extra $1k to it!!! He won't even certify if the fence is not there. Yes indeed, price for honesty!! Building Clarendon Brighton - Done and moved in Sept 2009 Old Home Restoration / Renovation Try your local council.
