Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 17, 2009 7:52 pm Hi
We are in the fixing stage of our house and the insulation does not appear to have been put in the walls.. Has anyone else experienced this issue or did you check that it was done?? Re: No insulation 2Mar 17, 2009 8:05 pm Are you sure that wall insulation is included in your contract? It is not a standard item in our contract with Clarendon in Sydney. Built the C£arend0n Cambridge: Moved in. Happy campers. Here's our story on HomeOne I might be old, but I have no trouble finishing my... er... Insulation 3Mar 17, 2009 8:12 pm It is a standard item. There are different requirements for NSW and VIC. Insulation 5Mar 17, 2009 8:24 pm Our neighbour mentioned that he couldn't see it when the plaster was going up, I thought nothing of it at the time, then went back and checked the contract on the weekend and saw that we should have it as part of the contract.
I am sure it will be fine and will all end up OK. Our builder has been really great to date and I am sure they will fix it or find a solution that rectifies the problem. We have changed SS and our new SS doesn't seem to communicate as often as our previous one. I guess they just have different styles of working and I am used to our last SS. Re: No insulation 6Mar 17, 2009 8:29 pm lets hope it has been installed, because if it hasn't the only way to fix this is to remove all the plaster board from the external walls,
i would ask the builder to cut a small hole in a external wall to proof that it has been installed let's hope it as been installed lets us know how you go good luck Insulation 7Mar 17, 2009 8:36 pm I hope it doesn't come to that, the kitchen is in, the tiling done, the cabinets are in, the electrical is done, the painting is done.....
They have cut a couple of holes and the SS said it didn't appear to have any at those spots. The SS is looking into it. I guess I am worrying a little but it will be OK. There is always a way to find a solution. I am sure there is another way to do the insulation.. Re: Insulation 8Mar 17, 2009 8:38 pm OurHouseonHighgrove I am sure there is another way to do the insulation.. There is only two ways to fix the wall insulation.. either take down the plaster or take down the bricks... there is no easy fix if they haven't put it in... put you hand in a hole where they have cut for powerpoints and see if it is there. Re: No insulation 9Mar 17, 2009 8:43 pm There is no other way to do wall insulation other than installing it before plaster. You really need to get this checked out asap. Do you realise how hot your walls will be in summer? Insulation 10Mar 17, 2009 8:47 pm Yes, I read an article on insulation and it reads that 48% of energy loss comes from the walls, 10% the floors, and the rest is the roof.
Have looked at other options and there seems to be an insulating foam product that is available. They inject it into the walls, my hubby saw it at the HIA Home Show. It is probably expensive. Re: No insulation 11Mar 17, 2009 8:57 pm what ever reason why it hasn't been installed the only to fix this issue is to remove the plaster to the external walls.
we would hope the builder just jumps in does what ever they need to fix the problem it should only take a couple of weeks for the build to get back on track. make sure you follow up with them in the morning (stay right on top until you get an answer) let us know how you go tomorrow good luck form all of us Re: No insulation 13Mar 17, 2009 9:15 pm Yes, it certainly does happen that it gets "forgotten". My DB recently built & happened to be at the site to see that the plaster was going in without the insulatoin. He was lucky that he was there Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Re: No insulation 14Mar 17, 2009 10:02 pm Woah and the builder CANT get around this one, if its in Vic then it has to be 5 star and you have 0 chance at that if there is no wall insulation. You wont get the certificate of occupancy (IIRC).
Someone is gonna get their *** kicked for that one! No Insulation 15Mar 18, 2009 6:32 am Thats what I thought... We only have about 5 or so weeks worth of work to go. We were hoping to be living in the house soon. Oh well, it has to be right. I will keep you posted. Re: No insulation 16Mar 18, 2009 1:22 pm OurHouseonHighgrove Hi We are in the fixing stage of our house and the insulation does not appear to have been put in the walls.. Has anyone else experienced this issue or did you check that it was done?? Hi there, Check wth your builder as you should have external insulation done as part of 5 Star Energy Rating for a new home. But you need to upgrade for insulation done for internal walls. Re: No insulation 17Mar 18, 2009 1:51 pm I built with Carlisle and we have wall and ceiling insulation, so no reason why you shouldnt! It will be a pain to fix that one up.... Built the Atlantique 37 Mk2 with Carlisle Homes - WE'RE IN!! Building thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=14413 ATLANTIQUE 37 MK2 PHOTOS THREAD - updated 22nd August '09 viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22399 Update 18Mar 18, 2009 7:55 pm Our builder has been really good at resolving this issue, I knew they would.
There is no insulation at the moment but there is a product that can be used and I had heard of it from a couple of people. The problem will be resolved quickly, our house will be more than adequately isulated (walls and ceiling). Phew! I can't wait to move in.................. I wish I was living there... I just love my house.. Our three year old said tonight, "the man (there was a van parked there today) is making our house beautiful. It is like a dream come true and we are going to live happily ever after"... far too many fairytales but so cute! Re: No insulation 19Mar 19, 2009 5:55 pm hi
well what type of product our they going to use, to be honest i have never heard of this type of fix before... are you building a double storey or single storey home look forward to finding out more info Update 20Mar 19, 2009 7:54 pm They are going to use a product called insulfluff(??), I think that is the correct name. They use this product to do insulation in older homes and go through a very small hole at each of the gaps in the walls. I am sure there is a more technical eay of describing it.
There is another product called insulfoam aswell. I will keep you posted. Hey guys building a new place through a volume builder and just wondering if i should complain to the site supervisor as we just had plasterboard installed. Looks like… 0 11279 1000000% definitely add insulation. I have in my home and it makes a big difference minimising sound transfer. Insulation is pretty cheap and definitely worth it 2 6212 |
