With regards to your laundry tiling ? Did they say why they don't tile behind where the washing taps are ? I was kind of hoping they would tile there, but maybe it's not standard. Re: building my coral brampton - tile pics 27/10/09!!! 906Oct 28, 2009 8:03 pm Hi Jess House is looking fantastic. Did you pay extra to have cupboards in your laundry? I wish I had now as it looks really nice. Love the tiles. I like the white look, very fresh Karen Building coral Hamilton 252 on sunshine coast Re: building my coral brampton - tile pics 27/10/09!!! 907Oct 28, 2009 10:54 pm thanks ladies kaz - the laundry cupboards were about $700.00 dollars extra, and that was for 1.2m of cupboards with stainless steel inset sink and 400mm high tiling all the way across - i then increased the tiling to 600mm at my majer tiles appointment (which they threw in for free) and then my lovely tiler didn't charge any extra to lay them either, so another bargain there.... And fresh was exactly the look i was going for in the bathroom and laundry i think it will all tie in once the "natural white" paint is done - can't wait 2014 - Prepping to build the Soho 4 with Plantation homes, industrial style 2009 - Built the Brampton with Coral Homes viewtopic.php?f=31&t=15399&start=280 Re: building my coral brampton - tile pics 27/10/09!!! 908Nov 02, 2009 10:47 pm progress update (and yes, i forgot the camera ) garage door is now on, loving the surfmist! the house is all wrapped up ready for the painters to do the spray on sealer and undercoat tommorrow, and hopefuly the first coat of natural white will be done on wednesday 2014 - Prepping to build the Soho 4 with Plantation homes, industrial style 2009 - Built the Brampton with Coral Homes viewtopic.php?f=31&t=15399&start=280 Re: building my coral brampton - tile pics 27/10/09!!! 909Nov 02, 2009 10:51 pm Painting already Jess?? Just wondering what everyone else is doing? 2014 - Prepping to build the Soho 4 with Plantation homes, industrial style 2009 - Built the Brampton with Coral Homes viewtopic.php?f=31&t=15399&start=280 Re: building my coral brampton - feature walls?????? 916Nov 03, 2009 4:45 pm Hey Jess! Great idea! I do all my own painting normally anyway, would be doing the whole house but we've got so many other things to do that I just can't be bothered, so I'll just be doing feature walls, gradually, after we move in. In my old apartment, I had quite a small wall in the bathroom that I wanted to make a feature, so I bought a 500ml sample pot of paint. . . I think it was Wattyl but I can't be sure. . . the paint cost about $7 and did the whole wall! (I don't know if they sell them any more). Actually, would be more cost effective to buy 4 x 500ml sample pots and just mix them all together in another container instead of buying a 2 litre tin!!! From my painting experience (which isn't vast, but anyway. . . ) I've bought expensive roller cartridges and they've been good, but now I just buy a big 9-pack of the cheapest ones possible and throw them away after using them instead of washing. I just make sure I give them a good rinse with warm water, give them a REALLY good rub to get all the loose fibres off and let them dry naturally before I use them. I have a friend who swears by the really expensive roller cartridges, she just gives it a really good rinse off after every use then chucks it in the washing machine! As for paint brushes, same again, I've bought really expensive ones and have been very disappointed. I swear by my two little blue 'cutting in' brushes that I got from Bunnings for about $6 each. The bristles end on a slant (hard to describe) and they've got quite short stubby handles. Same as the rollers, I give brushes a good wash in warm water before using them, and tug on all the bristles so the loose ones come out BEFORE I start painting. I've also got a brush comb. . . it's got really sharp metal teeth on (so best to keep it away from the little fella) and it's great for when you're rinsing your brushes. Sorry, you probably already know all this! Feature wall tape eh! I've never heard of it? Is it like masking tape? I've never been too successful with masking tape, I always seem to get a bit of pain seeping underneath the tape, making it a messier finish than if I'd just cut in. ALTHOUGH. .. I did get some advice recently (not sure if it was on a renovation show or from a painter). . . put up your masking tape. . . paint along the masking tape in the colour of the main wall. . . let it dry. . . THEN paint your feature wall colour over the top. . . then, after the paint is dry, slice down the edge of the tape with a craft knife before removing the tape. I think I'll have a go at this method on a piece of cardboard or something before trying it on the walls though. Re: building my coral brampton - feature walls?????? 917Nov 03, 2009 4:54 pm We are thinking of painting our own feature walls too. Mainly because the painters are wanting to know exaclty which colour to quote us now. The frame is up and i haven't even thought about decorating colours so thought i will wait and see. Also the xmas sales soon will mean i can buy decorative items and then just choose a paint to match. I think doing your own walls is really brave. Go for it!!!!! I checked with coral and they are letting me go in before handover to do it, so I can do it before carpets down etc. I am having to put stuff on credit card, as the bank only giving me money now for the extras once I move in !! I have tried to budget an extra $1k a month savings to cover the extra repayments but I know it wil be tight.
