building your own home??? Why have you decided to build instead of renting or buying??? Re: Benefits of building your own home? 3Mar 19, 2009 10:46 am Get to move into a nice new area, that promotes being a community... most suburbs these days have lost that touch.
An estate that is like a town, with 10,000 people it will be like a regional city and will have all the facilites available within the estate. And the plenty valley looks like an awesome area to live in.. so can't wait to move there... oh and I will have my own theatre room... (as tiny as it is..) Re: Benefits of building your own home? 4Mar 19, 2009 11:12 am It was cheaper for us to move 10 min down the road and build a house in a new estate, than to buy established in an area that mum was in. Plust the FHOG was very helpful.
Also, you get the house that you want, in the colour scheme that you want. I think thats pretty good. Minus the headache of paperwork leading up the the build and probably the actual build itself. I hope it will all be worthwhile when we do move in Re: Benefits of building your own home? 5Mar 19, 2009 11:47 am WBA: Oh that sounds oh so beautiful and perfect!
How nice! Building Thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=13002 Site start: 8th July 2009 Handover: 11/12/2009! 5 months total build time. 40 sqs of luxuary...Bliss! Re: Benefits of building your own home? 6Mar 19, 2009 9:49 pm house to fit your needs rather than trying to modify something existing. Re: Benefits of building your own home? 7Mar 20, 2009 5:29 am We have done the buy a older house and done it up as well as building a couple of new houses. and we swore NEVER to buy a old place and do it up again.
We just love the whole "new" thing fresh, and a new house is like a new car it smells so dam good **** takes a big breath***** yes yes they need to make it in to a air freshener LOL John, Tarin and the Kids Built and moving in to the Regent Grande with Masterton homes http://thebrownsaremovingtothecountry.blogspot.com Re: Benefits of building your own home? 8Mar 20, 2009 6:48 am I think building a house is also like creating an extension of yourself! (and your partner of course, if that's the case! )
You get to actually see yourself in what gets built through the things you choose/decide on...in a far more solid and real way than just buying furniture, art etc that you like! For me, I can't wait to have a slab - forget about the roof even - just having something real, on the ground, which will hopefully be there for 100s of years...i'm excited!!!!! Oh..and also the part about it being new and shiny and smelling nice...haha Re: Benefits of building your own home? 9Mar 20, 2009 7:51 am We looked at older places in established areas but the cost was enormous and we would have to renovate and the house were quite small....
I think the thing about building your own home is you get to pick the block you what where you want it and you get the house you want! ie - our block has a park across the road and p-12 school going in on our street eventually and the town centre being built a few mins drive and its a brand new estate so as wakeboard any said it will be like a little community! Plus we got to choose the colours so many established houses we looked out we didnt like the bricks because they were 1970/1980' style! 2nd build here we come in Whittlesea! https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=92617 1st Build - Henley - Cooper in Doreen! (2009) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=17354 Re: Benefits of building your own home? 10Mar 20, 2009 10:30 am Our first choice was to buy established, but we couldn't get what we wanted fro a reasonable price. Even when we looked at higher-priced homes, there was always something about any house we looked at that just didn't suit.
I found one that was "almost" perfect. End of a court, two streets away from our old place, decor I could easily live with, double garage, study, rumpus, huge outdoor covered deck, lovely established garden, enough living space, two bathrooms plus powder room....but only three bedrooms. And bit more than we wanted to spend, especially when you add on the huge stamp duty cost on an established house. I did briefly consider telling eldest son that it was time he moved out anyway.... Re: Benefits of building your own home? 11Mar 20, 2009 12:46 pm I agree with the previous posts re choosing the block, the estate and style of house etc.
I also think that doing all the extra little things after you move in is so much more personal. Such as choosing the light fittings, carpet and tiles, window coverings, designing the yard and even the type of driveway. This is the 4th house that I have built and I really enjoy doing all the little extra things even more than building the house itself.
