Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 18, 2009 1:16 pm Hi,
We were so close to handover and keys on Monday - but the alarm system hasn't been installed. We could have picked up the keys, and paid the final payment, but decided not to because the alarm hasnt been installed and for safety reasons. What has everyone else done? Picked up keys with no alarm system, and installation a few days later (leaving house unattended) or with builder doing all jobs before payment? Note the alarm system is being done through builder. Thanks kikin for your help, and I am aware of this. But I'm talking more so about whether the builder will be 'bothered' to install an alarm system after being paid the final claim. I just think that maybe they wont care as mych later. Built the Atlantique 37 Mk2 with Carlisle Homes - WE'RE IN!! Sorry I dun have any knowledge about the alarm system....but I reckon you can do some pre-cabling for alarm system and DIY after handover.... um....not sure if it works.... Metricon Amira Re: Settlement and Alarm Systems 7Mar 18, 2009 10:15 pm Is it perhaps a similar deal to the appliances, where they're installed a few days after handover?
I can't shed any light, as we bought our own alarm system a few days after handover and had the supplier install it. Sorry. Re: Settlement and Alarm Systems 8Mar 18, 2009 10:18 pm Like Kek we installed ours after handover too. I can understand you worrying about how fast the builder will do it once he has the final chq. We only got our rangehood vented to outside last week and we had handover 12/13 weeks ago. I think I'd be inclined to wait. Re: Settlement and Alarm Systems 9Mar 18, 2009 11:04 pm My understanding, if alarm system is included in your package, they would normally do the wiring before plastering (did you confirm that?), while the actual installation of the control panel, sensor, siren, ...etc are done with the other appliances.
Certainly best to confirm with your CSR first. I heard stories of new house owner who got all the new furnitures, appliances installed without any alarm system, and someone broke into the house a few days before they move it. Although they claim everything back through insurance, it's a very long process and quite bad experience... Make sure you got your alarm installed before installing any appliances!
