Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Fibre optic connection in Alamanda 22May 19, 2009 11:34 pm sarahq My CLE commented that it might be possible to get the cabling done through Opticomm instead of Argus. Opticomm must be allowed on site to install the termination box (usually in the garage I think). They also have the right insurance, which I think is the main reason Carlisle don't allow others on site. All builders say that.. but when you get assigned a SS just ask him nicely and he will normally turn a blind eye to 3rd party contracters. Re: Fibre optic connection in Alamanda 23May 21, 2009 10:42 am Hi i am wondering if fabic connection similar to ADSL, once all lines are taken you cannot connect it unless they install more new lines or someone disconnect and you become available? I have seen a number of neighbours moved in and installed the ONU connection for the fabic (a small box next to the conduit)... when i called Opticomm a few weeks back, they told me that they just need me to call them and they will organise the installation and I can then call Internode for connection.. but when i called them this morning, they said there is no fabic available.. When i asked them 'how about my neighboure', they said no one is connecting to fabic at a moment, so i am just wondering why it is so different between now and a few weeks back?? they seems give me different information Blog - http://clageonewhouse.blogspot.com/ Building Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=10886&hilit=milan I am in, with my husband and my beautiful bunny Re: Fibre optic connection in Alamanda 24May 21, 2009 10:54 am nah fibre is different.. everyone will be able to connect to it, but they may not have laid the fibre in the pits yet. Re: Fibre optic connection in Alamanda 25May 21, 2009 11:05 am Thanks wakeboardandy Is the fabic laying for each lot? my opposite neighboure is having it installed and connected, only a few weeks ago... When i called them back in March, they did tell me they start laying fabic since Feb.. oh, may be they are just too slow.. What i don't like is, they know which address i am asking for installation, if the fabic laying is not done, they should have told me weeks ago.. but instead, they told me that i can call anytime, and better call a week before moving in, then everything will be organised and done.. and now, i organise the move and properly move in without internet... argh.. may be i just hangon and not disconnect the connection for the existing house.. so i will be surfing internet in an empty house and sleep in the new house.. thanks god there is only 3-5mins drive between 2 houses hahaa Blog - http://clageonewhouse.blogspot.com/ Building Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=10886&hilit=milan I am in, with my husband and my beautiful bunny Re: Fibre optic connection in Alamanda 26May 21, 2009 11:24 am claego Thanks wakeboardandy Is the fabic laying for each lot? my opposite neighboure is having it installed and connected, only a few weeks ago... I'm not sure of opticomm process so can't comment. I'm hoping I don't wait long for connection, but it isn't a big deal, as I have a next g wireless card thanks to work. Hi, how exciting, my next door neighboure is actually building with Simonds too.. are we turning our street to Simonds Street?? I did not use Simonds to do the fibre installation. Although i wanted to, but they told me that they know nothing about it. But I have heard that they have package available now, so they suddenly know what to do now .. Since they are not doing anything for me, i am allowed to bring my own electrican onsite to do the smart wiring though.. and just called Opticomm today and think that they can organise the connection for me, but they then said that there is no fibre available at a moment, and i have to wait till the end of the month.. so i properly move in without internt/phone/tv Blog - http://clageonewhouse.blogspot.com/ Building Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=10886&hilit=milan I am in, with my husband and my beautiful bunny Re: Fibre optic connection in Alamanda 30May 22, 2009 10:18 am claego I did not use Simonds to do the fibre installation. Although i wanted to, but they told me that they know nothing about it. But I have heard that they have package available now, so they suddenly know what to do now .. Simonds can't do the actual fibre connection, that's done by Opticomm. However, Simonds are doing my smart wiring. In fact, they're doing it for free, because it was in the original quote, but disappeared from the final contract. So, I was rushing around trying to find someone to do it for me. Then, when I was onsite on a Saturday to get the home theatre wiring added, a Simonds contractor arrived with our smart wiring system. Score! Re: Fibre optic connection in Alamanda 31May 26, 2009 8:17 pm Hi guys, I thought I'd update you all with some interesting news. I have just been told that Argus Technologies, who are the prefered cablers for Carlisle homes, Porter Davis, Simmonds and others, are now offering an Opticomm Smart Wiring Package for those of us in Alamanda. Argus can also do the alarm system, ducted vacumming, audio/video wiring and other things. So we are thinking that it makes sense for us to go through them to do various things around the house during construction. pcan Re: Fibre optic connection in Alamanda 32May 26, 2009 11:13 pm That is good news for everyone looking to build with those builders!
I am still waiting on information on what M3tricon are doing in Alamanda as far as the smart wiring goes. Will post it up here as soon as I know. Re: Fibre optic connection in Alamanda 33May 27, 2009 7:15 pm It is good that they now have a preferred cablers to do the wiring for them.. When i first started last year, none of them know what to do.. and i have to ring aound and find an electrican to do it for me.. I am not sure if my wiring is done correctly and/or up to their standard, i just hope so.. AND what is SMART WIRING? sorry, ask to many questions.... Re: Fibre optic connection in Alamanda 35May 30, 2009 9:53 pm FYI:- Just received an email from Joe that there will be an optic fabic information night next week in Alamanda Club House, RSVP is required. Some of your earlier posts also had the word "fabic", which I think was further confusing the issue. You could also use the terms "FTTH" or "Fibre to the Home".
