Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 18, 2009 12:27 am We have a sewer tap / manhole (with a concrete cover) right in the middle of our backyard. I'm a bit unhappy about the location of it as it looks ugly and seems like a silly place to have it. However, I don't know much about sewerage systems and drainage and am assuming there's a logical reason for its placement.
My question is, are we allowed to cover it by planting or paving over it or can we only landscape around it? I'm also wondering who decides the location of these on the property, ie. is it the builder or council or water company? I have grass on top ofmine, which can be cut withna sharp shovel, and the whole piece removed Adrian B Re: Sewer tap / manhole 3Mar 18, 2009 9:32 pm I have a relative who has one and they just had somebody inspect it. As they haven't long shifted in they asked what are they allowed to do with it and they were told they could put pebbles, mulch etc. over it without a problem. They would just be moved if it ever had to be accessed. You might be able to apply to divert the sewer at your expense.
