Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 17, 2009 11:29 pm Hi,
Is it better to pre-wire for a home security system by the builder or is it just as easy to do it after handover by an electrician? Especially for a double storey house. If going for the pre-wire option, do we mention that to the builder at electrical planning? MadCow. For double story, I don't know much about access to first floor ceiling but I wouldn't think it would be much if at all.. so I would do the wiring now. Re: Double Storey - is it better to pre-wire for home security 3Mar 18, 2009 4:59 pm Hi Mad Cow
We are building a 2 storey home and had our security system pre-wired. We used an external company and advised the builders of their details. The builders gave us dates that the company could come and do the work. It is much easier to have it pre-wired and have then come back at handover to complete the work. We did the cables it during build, and even then, we accidentally got in a day too late so the downstairs bedroom will have to be wireless. We've been told that it won't be a huge deal. The battery for that room will need to be changed once a year, and the central unit will beep to let us know it needs changing. We already paid for somfy motors for the blinds. The quote above was purely for “pre-wiring” so the blinds company can install the motors and blinds.
