Browse Forums Building A New House Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 1861Jun 04, 2011 3:31 pm The new general store is a lovely space - open, light, spacious. The coffee was fine and they had a newspaper for me to buy. Even though their prices will be higher than at the plaza (probably), I like that I won't have to get in my car, spend the petrol money, fight the traffic and find a parking spot, just because I've run out of milk. (Or, in all honesty, feel like a bit of chocolate.) Aurora Community Association Fund Raiser 1862Jun 04, 2011 5:45 pm On Sunday June 26 we will be holding a fundraising BBQ at the Bunnings in Epping. This is our major fundraiser for the year and helps to pay for our public liability insurance. We need lots of help with this one, so please let us know if you are able to help out on the day. We will then draw up a roster. If mornings or afternoons are better for you, just let us know and we'll do our best to schedule you in at your preferred time. As you can imagine, putting on a Bunnings BBQ is a lot of work, so the more people we have helping out, the better (lots of volunteers will also mean shorter shifts!). Please email me at aurora3076@yahoo.com.au Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 1863Jun 04, 2011 11:01 pm The new general store is quite a nice place. Good prices for a lunch or breakfast in the cafe as well. Unfortunately most of the staff who work there are smokers and I hate seeing the people who prepare my food smoking out the front of the shop just before doing so (not having a go at smokers in general, everybody is entitled to their choice. I just very much hate it around food places especially the people in the kitchen). I cant help but wonder how long the store can last once the shops in Lyndarum open up. Woolworths have a long history of making sure the little guy doesn't survive. Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 1864Jun 05, 2011 12:59 am Hi all, Does anyone know what are the timings for the new cafe? Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 1865Jun 05, 2011 1:59 pm ourhome Hi all, Does anyone know what are the timings for the new cafe? Their flyer gives these times, ourhome: Mon - Fri: 6:30am until 9:30pm Sat: 7:00am until 9:30pm Sun: 7:30am until 9:30pm Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 1866Jun 05, 2011 7:06 pm Nice coffee!!! Grinders coffee, prices what you expect from a cafe, nice outside on a good day... Was really nice when I went there for breakfast today... Took one of my dogs with me and enjoyed it outside... Nice to have somewhere nearby just to get out of the house without having to drive!!! Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 1867Jun 05, 2011 7:35 pm So nice to read positive feedback about the cafe. Whilst we're praising facilities, I've hired the Creeds Farm living and learning centre twice now for private functions and it's great! We had my son's 18th birthday there and we're having my parents surprise 50th wedding anniversary there in September. Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 1869Jun 06, 2011 11:16 am Well I spoke to Daniel from the VU fibre team on Friday. Unfortunately he rang me while I was waiting for my train at Flinders St so it was a little noisy to clearly understand what he was saying. From what I understood though is, Arise users who switch early may loose FTA and Foxtel because that hasn't been transferred over to VU yet. Whilst we could get switched over now, there is a chance the telephony side of things won't work either. Further to this, I also spoke to IINet on Friday and they advised that we would get new numbers. No too sure how true that is. I hope we get to keep our numbers because it would be a pain to have forward it to all my family and friends. Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 1870Jun 06, 2011 1:39 pm Went to the cafe today. It's a good place with a lot of variety available. Some points which they need to work on to make it a best place:- 1. They need to start accepting cards at the counter. "Sorry no EFTPOS" is a bit off. If they do not accept cards then it could be displayed in written somewhere. 2. There are no price tags for any single thing on the shop. It's like a surprise at the checkout. 3. The fresh produce and pastries/sandwiches can be tagged with what it is. It makes simple for all to shop around rather then asking questions. Looks good overall. I can install my own antenna and in 2 months with what I will save in internet fees I will have paid for a new antenna more than once!!! Then again, I have the luxury of being the sparky who would install it to, so that saves me the install cost... and as far as phone goes, My Voip services only need a net connection... so again not a problem!!! BRING ON THE NEW PROVIDERS!!! Hmm can anyone guess I am really looking forward to leaving arise??? didnt think so... You mentioned that you use VOIP for calls. I've never really looked into it but with the change in ISP's ,this is something I might look into. What equipment do you need and can VOIP be used for home alarm monitoring. TBH the only reason I have a home line is for the alarm. Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 1873Jun 07, 2011 9:54 am Huh? What do we need an antenna for? Isn't that the whole point of having the whole house cabled? I don't understand what you guys are saying. But if I have to change my number I'm going to be annoyed I have Foxtel through my fibre cabling and I don't want a satellite dish on my roof, nor an antenna. I just want reasonably priced internet at a faster speed than the current slow speed. Sigh...some days I'm so over all this crap. TBH the only reason I have a home line is for the alarm. Have an ATA (Analogue Telephone adapter) that was supplied by mynetfone. Only problem I really had was with the original Modem that Arise supplied, and for Fax which has been good lately, but for a while it was rather random in its operation. All I need to do is supply it power and a LAN port and it works fine (We have 2 Adapters providing 4 lines as we have a business line as well) I have my alarm set up to call my Mobile on alarm, and that works fine, Probably best to double check with your monitoring company, but shouldn;t be a problem. Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 1875Jun 07, 2011 4:12 pm oztish Huh? What do we need an antenna for? Isn't that the whole point of having the whole house cabled? I would assume that if us oldies Jump ship to early if we have a current phone number we may loose it, however if we wait it out we should be able to keep our numbers, I have had little luck getting a new connection yet, been told the street address closest to my house is 8 houses away!!!!!!!! (Obviously Stage 7 or 8? whichever was the first one to not get Arise....) As far as the other services go, once the whole transition is completed and the new providers have full access to all network infrastructure I would assume all existing services will remain available as we have now including Foxtel and FTA so I wouldn't stress to much about it! Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 1876Jun 08, 2011 2:14 pm oztish Sigh...some days I'm so over all this crap. oh i hear that one oztish. I left the house this morning to yet another truck blocking my driveway, tackled the 30min drive to drop 2 kids at school, coming home im driving down my street and realised what a complete mess it is rubbish dumped everywhere mud everywhere the rain water isnt going anywhere because the drain is blocked, i ran over a mouse on the road pulled up into my muddy drive (from builder next door who are now also parking on the footpath and have dug up the naturestrip next door messy) got out the car only to see that the mice have chewed a big hole through my rubber strip that was on the bottom of our roller door great! walked into house and closed all the blinds on the one side of house so the builders on the roof next door couldnt look in at me all day, and thought right im going to email the ftth team and find out where my cheque is been waiting forever typed email hit send and nothing, no internet yet again. So grabbed my mobile to txt a few people and ring hubby to whinge about my morning and yep no signal on mobile. So sat down to watch tv and gave up after 20mins of fighting with the antennae to get a good picture. Put my baby down for a sleep as he is sick at the moment and the builders next door woke him. So he woke up screaming and wouldnt go back to sleep and of course it then started raining so the builders went home. I am so over it today its not funny. What happened to the nice simple relaxing life in a nice clean estate i was looking for. Good news is my internet and phone are now working again and hubby just rang to say he spoke to iiprimus and they said they can hook us up with net and phone now we are in stage 14 and although we have heard nothing from ftth about any service providers thanks to you guys on here we found out about iiprimus and thought we would take a shot and see if its ready for us. Hubby was waiting on a call back as to when they can switch us on hopefully asap. I really didnt like having a sick baby at home and no phone working. Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 1877Jun 08, 2011 4:40 pm Oh Techno, I am so sorry to hear you've had such a rough time. The dirty, truck filled streets are very frustrating but that will pass in time as your part of the development builds up. I hope your little one is better soon, I know what it's like - I have 3 children. Which school do your children go to? We are going to Acacia College in Mernda - it takes around 8 minutes to get there. I'm sure as developments continue along Epping Road that time will grow...but by then the school will have a bus running through this area. Currently most of their students seem to come from the Doreen, Whittlesea, Eltham, Greensborough, Diamond Creek, Hurstbridge side of the world so that's where the bus lines come from currently. I just wanted to tell everyone - if you're currently with Arise and you have a 40GB plan, you now have 100GB per month for no extra charge, as of right now....happy downloading. Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 1878Jun 08, 2011 5:32 pm oztish Huh? What do we need an antenna for? Isn't that the whole point of having the whole house cabled? I don't understand what you guys are saying. But if I have to change my number I'm going to be annoyed You shouldn't have to change your number - if they tell you that you do, perhaps you can politely point out that by law they have to, here's a link with some info from ACMA: http://www.acma.gov.au/WEB/STANDARD/pc=PC_311372 If you don't want to read it all, here's the highlights: "CSPs [basically any voice service company] that provide carriage services (including VoIP services) using local numbers must allow their customers to change to another CSP (the gaining provider), while keeping the same telephone number." "Compliance If a gaining provider is willing to port in a number used in connection with a local service but porting is refused by the losing provider, the gaining provider may report this refusal to the ACMA to investigate any non-compliance by the losing provider and to consider appropriate action. Under subsection 462(1) of the Telecommunications Act 1997 (the Act), a carrier or CSP must comply with the Numbering Plan, including the portability requirements. Under the Act, a failure to comply with the Numbering Plan (such as a refusal to port a number) would contravene the Standard Carrier Licence Conditions or the Service Provider Rules which apply to CSPs. A breach of these conditions or rules enlivens the civil penalty provisions and may lead to proceedings for substantial pecuniary penalties under Part 31 of the Act." Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 1879Jun 08, 2011 5:35 pm Oh Techno, sounds like you've had a pretty rough day. Hope Bub is getting better, so tough looking after a sick Bub and those annoying builders next door. Hope tomorrow is a better day. I am curious how long it takes to drive to Epping train station after dropping th kids off at school. What's the traffic like down high street at that time? Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 1880Jun 08, 2011 6:43 pm Techno, I think I had street-building, then house-building around me for about 18 months after I moved in. Finally, the 6am "d-d-d-d-d-d" noise from the rock-breakers, the constant roar of trucks, the regular passing of the sewage disposal trucks (yes, it had to be trucked from parts of the estate), the driven-over nature strips, the 6- and 7-day a week construction noises, all of it started to move further away. Someone once said that we are pioneers - we are on the edge of development, we are putting up with short-term disturbances and discomfort for longer-term tranquility and services. That may not be much consolation to you after a day like this one, but you WILL be able to have more peaceful days down the track. On another matter altogether, what do you mean, oztish, that those on a 40GB plan now have 100GB? Did Arise email those people? (If so, I guess I'm not on the 40GB plan.)
