Browse Forums Building A New House Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 1486Mar 27, 2011 11:16 am Telstra Wireless is great as I have said before, all I have is a little antenna inside the house and it gives me a Telstra phone line and Bigpond. Have had it since day one. Cheap as chips! The VicUrban cheques are money for Jam! Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 1487Mar 27, 2011 12:45 pm As per VU in the last ACA meeting, those who have disc antennas on their roof would be allowed to have it till the time the FTTH is fully functional for them. After the FTTH is connected, VU can force the houses with the antennas to have it removed as it is very clear in the contract that no one is allowed to have one. The antennas as per VU can only be used temporarily. I have been hearing since the time I have booked the land that "in next few months the new ISP's are coming." but it's almost a year but nothing has been finalized. Let's hope this issue is resolved soon. Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 1490Mar 27, 2011 6:06 pm ourhome00 I've been reading about these compensation cheques from VU. I havnt heard anything about them. Does it apply to residents in a certain stage? We have built in stage 3. You have a service. Stage 8 onwards does not have a service, thus is compensated for that. Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 1491Mar 28, 2011 2:50 pm i have juz got a compensation $200 for mobile pm, $100 for internet pm and $500 per foxtel installation with $600 for subscription or so...and i juz moved to aurora and built at stage 14 we've got a small antenna to watch local tv channels as usual...so these compensation is kinda of a bonus though having foxtel is great... tort Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 1492Mar 28, 2011 4:33 pm tortoise i have juz got a compensation $200 for mobile pm, $100 for internet pm and $500 per foxtel installation with $600 for subscription or so...and i juz moved to aurora and built at stage 14 we've got a small antenna to watch local tv channels as usual...so these compensation is kinda of a bonus though having foxtel is great... tort i am in stage 13, moved in 3 weeks and still waiting Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 1493Mar 28, 2011 7:15 pm Hey all Lyndarum residents, I was out taking a look at my block on the weekend and noticed a service pit that was labelled optic fibre. Do we have access to FTTH like Aurora residents do? I was a bit surprised as I have not heard anyone mention it on the forum here. Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 1494Mar 28, 2011 7:18 pm Moving2 Epping - maybe they're putting the NBN cabling in (?) Trust me, our old cable internet was faster than the FTTH here at Arise (at present anyway) and 1/3 the cost Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 1495Mar 28, 2011 7:58 pm oztish Moving2 Epping - maybe they're putting the NBN cabling in (?) Trust me, our old cable internet was faster than the FTTH here at Arise (at present anyway) and 1/3 the cost Could be oztish, I didn't consider that because I thought it would be some time away given the politicians were still voting on it last week. But may preparing for it. Is there anyone currently in Lyndarum with access to optic fibre Internet? Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 1496Mar 28, 2011 10:01 pm thanks for the info myhomie and boj. rabbitboy i havent as yet seen any roof antenna's in the aurora estate only lyndarum im sure some people have them. Im also in stage 14 and have been using rabbit ears for tv. we lodged for compensation last week not sure how long it will be till hear something from them. I went into vu office today to hand in my front landscaping paperwork and was again told its about 2 months off from getting a provider although i was told there will be 3 providers so there should be some better prices then arise was offering one provider was iprimus. As for the landscaping of front yard i find it a bit pointless. i wish they did like most other estates and take a bond from you when you purchase the land and re-emburse you once you have done your own front yard. This is how they did it in the estate i used to live in you had 6 months to finish your front yard to a certain standard if you didnt you lost your bond, so most people made sure it was done and you get to design and pick your own plants. someone mentioned on this forum something about someone being fined for putting in roses....this cant be right i asked today if i could pull out what they planted and replace with what i wanted ( dont like the native plants that come with my design they attract bees and both my kids have sinus probs but anyway..) i was told once they do your yard you can do what you like to it add what you want and take out what you dont like. As far as normal tv channels i think i am starting to understand how it all works now i was thinking if you just wanted normal free to air channels you had to pay foxtel to get through fibre optics but now i think im right...as soon as there is a provider for phone or net you get the free to air channels through them for free. I was confused because i have the two outlets per room for fibre optics (phone net tv) and also the standard coaxil cable point outlet so i was thinking well you need a antenna for them. As far as my mouse problem i got rentokill out today to lay bait stations the little critters are eating there way through everything in the garage. Caught the ones in house for now hoping there is no damage done to any cables in house the door strips lasted one night they ate throw them no worries. hopefully we will get them under control. If you have a tile roof and no sarking you can easily put a TV antenna inside your ceiling space. Concrete tiles are pretty much transparent to VHF and UHF signals. Terracotta would be less transparent as it tends to have a higher mineral content. You would need to pull some coax down your wall to wherever your TV is but it's a simple task that can be done by anyone handy. As far as aiming the antenna, just look at houses around the area and point it in the same direction, then adjust while connected to your DSTB (Digital set top box) or DTV with the BER (bit error rate, sometimes labelled 'quality') display on the screen. FYI, you need to aim for Mt Dandenong. techno74 As far as normal tv channels i think i am starting to understand how it all works now i was thinking if you just wanted normal free to air channels you had to pay foxtel to get through fibre optics but now i think im right...as soon as there is a provider for phone or net you get the free to air channels through them for free. The fibre network at Aurora is a triple play system. It delivers data, television and telephone over the one fibre. All the services are digital. Most likely, the FTA (free to air) TV channels are received by an antenna in a central location, converted to a digital signal and then sent down the fibre as IPTV. Ideally Foxtel would be delivered as digital from the studio but I am guessing that this is not the case, based on the disorganisation that Vic Urban has shown in other areas. At the NTD (the box in your comms cabinet where the fibre terminates) the VOIP phone is converted to POTS (plain old telephone service) for you to plug your telephone into. The digital TV streams are converted into analogue and digital TV and modulated back up to the VHF and UHF bands, so your normal TV will work. Foxtel will probably still require a set top box (I'm guessing). This information is based on the second half of the Aurora land contract (yes I read it) and my research on Aurora and their systems. My land is not titled yet so I'm not quite a resident but I have an interest in these systems. I was originally not going to buy in Aurora as they had retailer lock in on the internet/data system (Arise) until I noticed that Internode (my current ISP) was negotiating to be a retailer. Unfortunately Internode has pulled out as Vic Urban are being too slow and inflexible but by that time I had already bought the land so now I'm stuck. Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 1498Mar 29, 2011 9:00 am i checked the iprimus website and they are supplying fibre optic net and phone to most of the new areas that have fibre optic so i think the lady at vicurban was right in saying iprimus would be one of the 3 providers that we will get there prices werent bad either in comparison to what arise were. Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 1499Mar 29, 2011 9:02 am wokwon Most likely, the FTA (free to air) TV channels are received by an antenna in a central location, converted to a digital signal and then sent down the fibre as IPTV. At the last ACA meeting where there were representatives from VicUrban discussing the FTTH and related service issues, it was made clear that the FTA channels are received at a central location and then pushed out through the network, so you are completely correct in this regard. Whether it's in IPTV or not wasn't made clear, but it's logical to assume that it is. wokwon At the NTD (the box in your comms cabinet where the fibre terminates) the VOIP phone is converted to POTS (plain old telephone service) for you to plug your telephone into. You are right, also with the Foxtel service you still need the STB for that too. wokwon I was originally not going to buy in Aurora as they had retailer lock in on the internet/data system (Arise) until I noticed that Internode (my current ISP) was negotiating to be a retailer. They removed the information from their website (along with the other 2 ISPs that were planning on servicing Aurora), but this doesn't necessarily mean that they will now not service the area. There could've been NDAs in place to prevent these companies from advertising their services until VicUrban is ready to announce. I suggest you read one of my previous posts in this forum where the VicUrban rep for FTTH was actually discussing with people face to face with what's the current situation and looking forward in regards to FTTH, I'm sure you'd be very interested to hear what the official word is on these things : viewtopic.php?p=682185#p682185 Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 1500Mar 29, 2011 11:33 am Quote: Ideally Foxtel would be delivered as digital from the studio but I am guessing that this is not the case, based on the disorganisation that Vic Urban has shown in other areas.
