And here we are. start of a new month, and speeds back up.... Funny that!!! I will also be living in aurora with my wife by end of the year and I am very interested to know what people are currently paying for there connections. I currently work in an IT support role and was initialy excited by what we were told with regards to the fibre connection. after what i have been reading i no longer share that excitement With regards to the router / modem needed for the internet connection was this supplied by arise or do you have the option of buying your own hardware? as i am looking at going wireless within the house. There are aparently another 2 providers comming in to replace arise in the later stages, does anyone know who they are? We are currently with Optus cable and they have been really good. If only they could supply to our estate. Stage: 12 Grebe, 4 Bedroom Aurora Estate, Epping North Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 510Jul 01, 2010 7:23 pm Damo - I'm with you. Today it was OK again. The thing is, as a book-keeper, I'm at my busiest at end of month and this is when it packs it in. I emailed Arise but haven't received a response. We are also getting the echoing on our phone line again - are you? I thought those days were long gone! The other day I couldn't even get a phone line. And yesterday my dial tone was all weird and people's voices on the other end of the line were dropping out. I am so frustrated - I think we're paying $200 per month for phone and internet. Hi Tish..... Were doing EOF so yeah, I know your pain all to well.... We don't get the echoing however my VOIP does suffer occasionally. (We do not have a phone line through arise) We pay $10 a month through one of the Voip providers that only requires us to have an internet connection.... Its worth checking out, as essentially its the same service provided by arise... however we pay $130 a month just for the priveledge of an overpriced fibere optic service.... THAT DOES NOT REPRESENT WHAT WE WERE PROMISED!!! For that $10 a month we get 100 calls AUS Wide to fixed numbers... Much better than the Arise $30 phone line rental Plus calls...... The router we are using was supplied by VicUrban, it isn't very reliable to be honest, however we have added a wireless access point to it which seems to work ok... all I did was to disable DHCP in the wireless access point (After setting passwords etc) and it seems to work ok... I don;t have access to the wireless adapter from IE or firefox anymore however unless I reset the router to factory settings... You use whatever Arise give you, IIRC it's Netgear products. You can always jack a wifi access point into an available ethernet port somewhere in your house (my builder's giving me ethernet jacks in 5 rooms for my house) - this might be a better option as this way you can position the WAP to have better spread in the areas where you'll probably be using wifi the most. If the WAP was in the same cabinet as the rest of the networking hardware, a lot of signal would be spread across your front lawn, chances are you wouldn't be using wifi there, right? escort71 There are aparently another 2 providers comming in to replace arise in the later stages, does anyone know who they are? Obviously that date has come and gone without a peep from VicUrban, which was pretty much expected via the disappointment of current Aurora residents. I'm secretly hoping one of the providers will be Internode (they're my current ISP) as they have been pretty active in new and proposed FTTH installations across Victoria and in some other states too. Knowing my chances though, looks slim. DamoAu I don;t have access to the wireless adapter from IE or firefox anymore however unless I reset the router to factory settings... Have you upgraded the firmware? Most modem / router manufacturers like to ship their products with heaps of bugs to start off with, and slowly whittle down the list of bugs with regular firmware updates. Brand is Netgear, Model is Prosafe VPN Firewall FVS318v3... Firmware is the most up to date available. As far as my WAP goes, It no longer shows up as I have disabled its DHCP service, so it is relying on the netgear above to allocate IP Addresses, so the WAP is hidden as a result. The router seems to perform ok, but when you start using it with multiple external connections is crashes... I don;t think this part of it is an arise issue, more to do with the router (I think) When it crashes, you can no longer access it via IE/FF or any other browser, it needs a power down and reboot... Something that will be a concern for those who do not get a key to the cabinet. It also has a tendancy to occasionally block one of my 4 Voip services until it is rebooted......? If you have an issue with DHCP, you could always assign a static IP address to your WAP (assuming your WAP supports this - my old Linksys did, and I use a Billion modem/wifi router combo unit now). My wired and wifi network are all DHCP but limited to a range only (192.168.1.100 - 192.168.1.200) and have other workstations with either static or DHCP Manual addresses outside that range. Maybe this is something you could configure in your network, assuming you have the option to do so? Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 517Jul 03, 2010 11:52 am We installed our own wireless router. The Arise people told us not to use an ADSL one. Ours is a Linksys one. I think it's just plugged into one of the Cat5E sockets in the wall. I have no idea if this has answered anyone's questions - my husband is the technical guru in this house. Re: LYNDARUM / AURORA ESTATES: Epping, Victoria 520Jul 05, 2010 11:34 am Hi All, I just found out this forum last week, when I google around searching information on Aurora Estate. My family and I are moving in to our new home, hopefully by the next week or two. We'll be getting our keys / handover (building with Zuccala Homes, Galleria, corner lot), this coming thursday ... will be meeting with VicUrban to discuss about landscaping and the internet/phone connection on the same day. Qs: 1) Flipping the few pages in this forum, it seems there are a number of issues with the internet / phone connection in recent weeks? Last week, I had a discussion with VicUrban reps, that for our building stage, the fibre connection is not yet available, therefore, will need to access wireless connection. Now, this will be discussed further when I meet them this thursday. What are the key pain points that I need to be mindful of? She said they'll pay some reimbursement for this issue. What's the cap? Is Arise still the provider for this? Is it possible to install Foxtel, Security - Central Monitoring, etc with this 'wireless connection'? 2) Re the landscaping (the rear one / one that VicUrban wont have to do with anything). My family and I decided that we're going to have to wait for 1 - 1.5 years until we do anything with the backyard. What some people are doing to their landscape, if they decide to delay this part? Coz, I dont want my daughter to be running around in the backyard full of mud and clay, and come back inside the house dirtying the floor etc ... any suggestion for to fix this in the interim is much appreciated.
