Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 16, 2009 7:51 pm Ok Homeoner's I need to get this sorted out pretty quick.
I really do prefer the dark teaky or chocolatey timber coloured furniture. Now IF we were to stain the timber handrail on the stairs instead of painting it, should it still be stained in a Maple colour (the same as the front door?) Will it go with the furniture? Would it be better painted a white? (the stair rail). I guess the front door is ok as it is sort of dosn't really need to match the furniture, does it? So what about the handrail? What's your opinion? www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Timber Stair stain same as furniture stain? In a hurry... 2Mar 16, 2009 8:00 pm Does it really matter? We have stained double entrance doors - inside and out, timber furniture in the lounge and hall table opposite in the passage and more timber furniture in the meals area. None of the colours are the same. But it looks fine to me. Not sure if others feel the same way
I guess I'd be inclined to match the handrail to the front door (are they near each other?) and not worry about the furniture. My handrail is slightly off white - chalkdust Re: Timber Stair stain same as furniture stain? In a hurry... 3Mar 16, 2009 8:01 pm oops - double post!
Re: Timber Stair stain same as furniture stain? In a hurry... 4Mar 16, 2009 8:39 pm IMHO contrasting timber looks good. I like a mixture as long as it doesn't put very red timber like rosewood with very brown timber like walnut.
Even in the same room, different architectural timbers can blend nicely and enhance each other. I always enjoyed the contrast between the dark stained oregon rafters and the pine laminated beams in our last house. But that was the 80's and today's look tends to be cleaner and less cluttered. So, I'd lean a little towards making the balustrade a similar colour to the front door......this shouldn't restrict furniture choices at all. But it's better to find out which you prefer. Why not try holding dark and light strips of cardboard/mdf or similar against the balustrade and use some imagination to see them as the ballustrade stain? If one or the other clearly looks better to you, then you have your answer. There isn't a right or wrong with something like this. Cheers zeke Re: Timber Stair stain same as furniture stain? You might get away with it with furniture, you don't have timber floors do you? Re: Timber Stair stain same as furniture stain? In a hurry... 7Mar 17, 2009 4:19 pm My understanding though is that if you paint the balustrade they use pine but if you stain it they use maple? Maybe that is just my builder or I am totally confused (which wouldn't be a first ) 2 2939 I'm curious, did they provide any reason why they did not like the idea? 1 14529 Hi, planning on using the attached stone pieces in my bathroom.
