Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 17, 2009 6:18 am Hi all,
This is all last minute, as we didn't know that they were on site at all, but our electrical tradies will be on site this morning to finish wiring up of our house. I'm going to drive by & ask them to add a couple of switches & pay them a few dollars for this. 1. How much do you think I should offer them to install lighting for 3 undercupboard kitchen lights ? 2.When should I pay them, as I 'll be at work all day ? Should I just hand over the money this morning, & hope that they do it ? They may not have the stock with them to do what you are asking so may need to come back 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' Re: URGENT ANSWER PLEASE -paying tradies for a favour 6Mar 17, 2009 9:24 am Hi Southies,
Yeah, I think Beer works quite well in Australia but you might need to also cover the materials, I doubt they'll have the fittings with them today but might be able to add the cables at least... Good luck! it's great to see that there's progress on site! Good luck! it's great to see that there's progress on site! Of course you still need to pay for materials, but offering them a slab can help make them more inclined to do the work for you 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' Would you be happy to offer whatever the builder was going to charge you, then the sparky will be happy to have the extra cost in his pocket rather than the builder's?
When the sparky was doing our house I mentioned a problem with one of our light switches being behind a set of french doors, so he OFFERED to put another switch in a more convenient place and make it a 2 way, I said great, thanks so much and bought him a 6 pack the next day. Re: URGENT ANSWER PLEASE -paying tradies for a favour 10Mar 17, 2009 9:36 am Hmm... I dont know whether I would pay the electrician the same amount as the builder to do it. If you go through the builder, Im assuming it has the warranty/maintenance attached or whatever it would come with? In which case Id get the builder Custom European Cabinets - Melbourne Kitchen Specialist PM for business details as website currently being updated! Our Crazy Owner Builder Journey! Re: URGENT ANSWER PLEASE -paying tradies for a favour 11Mar 17, 2009 9:42 am Yea i would pay for the materials but pay the labour with slabs!
I work in the construction industry and when we need variations done on the job, we just offer slabs, its easier than raising a variation invoice etc etc. With regards to pricing, I wouldnt pay what you normal would to get it through the builder. They have their markups on top of those prices. Because the electrician is already on site, they probably wouldn't charge much. Sorry, i'm not of much regarding the pricing. Good luck. Re: URGENT ANSWER PLEASE -paying tradies for a favour 15Mar 17, 2009 11:43 am Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou everybody for your input. However, it was all for nothing !
I met with the head sparky on my way to work this morning & he said they do this sort of thing all the time BUT wouldn't accept anything - beer or cash - due to conflict of interest & possible sakcings Would you believe that ??? So he took down my details & was going to ring me, after checking with his boss in the office for price, etc ............and still waiting..... somehow I don't think I'll be gettiing my under cupboard kitchan lighting Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Re: URGENT ANSWER PLEASE -paying tradies for a favour 18Mar 17, 2009 11:57 am Wow that's good and bad.
