Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 16, 2009 1:01 pm Hi,
We could not decide where to put our clothesline and TV in the master bedroom. Would appreciate existing and to-be Cremorners give us some idea where will be suitable pls. Thanks Clothesline outside Rumpus is facing West, good for sun. But it is NEXT TO Alfresco, kind of spoil the view of the relaxation area? To hang it on corner of the wall next to balcony, does it look like hospital bed setting? I am not building the Cremorne but I had this problem too - very hard to decide where to put a clothesline in a master bedroom Seriously, it depends a bit what sort of clothesline you are haveing, but have I understood correctly that the front of house faces east? If so, and you then do a wall mounted clothesline on the back rumpus wall, on the side furthest from the alfresco, I don't think you would see much of it, if any, from inside the alfresco. this seems to me the logical place anyway, large blank wall with no windows and still relatively close to the laundry exit door. Re: PD Cremorners - Where is your clothesline and TV ? 3Mar 16, 2009 4:35 pm I'll be having my clotheline on the side of the house, have to decide which side (kitchen exterior wall) or family area (exterior wall) when we move in. I don't want it on the back of the house or in the backyard as we don't have a huge backyard so want all the space to be used wisely
As for the TV ours will be on the wall directly oppisette the master bedroom - cabeling already done. We will put quite a large TV up there - maybe a 42 inch so will have no problem with the viewing distance. As we are building the Clifton facade we don't have the balcony so won't have the little corner of the wall there to put it on, if I had your set up and was planning on using a smaller TV I would put it on the wall near the balcony - not hospital like at all I don't think My karma ran over your dogma Re: PD Cremorners - Where is your clothesline and TV ? 4Mar 16, 2009 5:20 pm Haygwyl, if I was putting a clothesline on the side wall with this design, I would put it on the family room side, not the kitchen side - the kitchen side is a long way from the laundry door, whereas the family room wall is much more practical, just a step away. Re: PD Cremorners - Where is your clothesline and TV ? 5Mar 16, 2009 5:37 pm Helyn - We deleted the laundry door
Everyone thinks we are crazy but I didn't want another external access into the house, so for security reasons I deleted it. I figure the extra walk will do my arms and butt some good My karma ran over your dogma Re: PD Cremorners - Where is your clothesline and TV ? 6Mar 16, 2009 5:56 pm We will have a lift up/fold down clothesline on the side of the HT (laundry side) and a 6m retractable line on back of the HT. I still want a long line for sheets, doonas etc and when the weather is cooler but also want to be able to pack it away when we need to.
As for the TV, we opted for a large LCD on the wall opposite the bed. I don't watch telly in bed but my DH does, I'd rather be in the HT watching something I've been into a lived in Cremorne and they have their TV in that corner next to the window. It looked fine to me, I never thought of a hospital when I saw it Re: PD Cremorners - Where is your clothesline and TV ? 7Mar 16, 2009 6:17 pm I've got to decide where to put my clothesline too. So I might as well put my plan up in this thread too and ask for opinions.
At the moment you can see it is on the plan to go next to the alresco. We added the alfresco after the clothesline was already there, so now we are thinking it probably isn't a good spot for it. I was thinking to move it south about 5 metres against the fence on the east side. (North is up). The clotheslines are 1.5m wide and the gap is 2m to the house but they don't sit flush against the fence. Or I could mount it on the wall but then it probably wouldn't get as much sunlight as there is 45cm eaves on that wall. Or the best spot is probably on the north fence between the garage and alresco but I don't want to take up space when the yard is already tiny. Maybe I could put it in my front yard as there is heaps of space there! http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff285/agardner5/site-1.jpg Re: PD Cremorners - Where is your clothesline and TV ? 8Mar 16, 2009 6:23 pm What about on the side of the garage WBA? Then it would get north sun bit it wouldn't interfere with your outdoor area. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. I doubt we can fit a fold down clothesline on the side of the rumpus as we moved the water tank and window to that side. Maybe a retractable line at the back is the only option now. I guess it is if you don't have any space down the side. Re: PD Cremorners - Where is your clothesline and TV ? 11Mar 16, 2009 6:48 pm joles What about on the side of the garage WBA? I think it might just have to go down the back of the house. It won't have sun in the afternoon but will be out of the way and close to the laundry.. but where you said would be alot more effective.. stupid clotheslines!! Re: PD Cremorners - Where is your clothesline and TV ? 12Mar 16, 2009 6:51 pm Andy, does the clothesline come with the house? You might have been better off with a long retractable one across the back where the easement is. Can you change it? They are only about 1m wide and would give you enough room to stand in front of it and easy enough to retract when you don't need it. Just checked it out on the hills website.. They have to be minimum 4m wide.. so basically would be double the length of the fold out one but half the width (24m line vs 23m line so not much difference, can be more if I made it maximum 6.5m wide but not sure if we need that much). So would fit in much better. I can see a post to post one would work well. I think it is a bit more expensive but will ask SS if we can change it.. hopefully should be ok. Re: PD Cremorners - Where is your clothesline and TV ? 14Mar 16, 2009 8:03 pm Might be worth paying the extra money and having it out of the way of the side area and you get to put out the sheets without any problems too Re: PD Cremorners - Where is your clothesline and TV ? 15Mar 16, 2009 8:07 pm If they don't let you change it, take it, but don't have it installed. You can buy Hills look-a-like retractables on ebay too Ebay is my friend Re: PD Cremorners - Where is your clothesline and TV ? 17Mar 18, 2009 5:33 pm Problem solved!!
SS was happy to delete it from contract.. I will just buy one myself and install it with some ready mix concrete!! I will get the type Toni recommended... Once again thanks for the recommendation!!
