there have been all sorts of delays and problems with our housebuild, but we finally thought that we were close to plaster. We put our house up for sale with a long settlement date (90 days) and agreed to sell on the say so on the site supervisor (our 5th) who said that we would be in teh house in 6 weeks. We have then had someone break into the house twice and saw through roof beams. this is obviously a former employee/contractor of the builders company (he has a fair idea who) who hasnt been paid. police have apparently been informed (although we havent yet been given the crime number even though I have repeatedly asked for it) but it has meant t least another 6 weeks in delays. I have already agreed to sell our house and the purchasers cannot move the date back (they are being kicked out of their rental) so me and the family (we have 2 small kids) will be homeless for about 3-4 weeks min. Yes they will be paying liquidated damages (only 150/week but thats another story) but do you think I am being fair if i should ask for more - I would not have agreed to sell the house if it hadnt have been for the specific quote for finishing from the site supervisor.
what do you think? ideally i want them to pay for 1 set of moving costs to storage (the additional move that is now required) and for somewhere to live (maybe a showhome ? )
