Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 16, 2009 9:04 am I'm new to building and need some advice on whether to cut or fill on my landblock. One builder has advised that they would need to cut and another has said they would need to fill! The builder that says they would need to fill near the side and back of the block says that we would also need a drop edge beam. We got the site costs (from the builder that wants to fill) which is around $28K, is this reasonable? Seems a bit steep to me, or is that the usual cost? The amount of fill is about 1/3 of the block, maybe even a bit less and they can only fill up to 600mm, due to council regulations. Access to the block is not a problem as we will be one of the first to build there bcos it is a new estate. Please help!! Re: Cut and fill on my land block...which is cheaper?? 2Mar 16, 2009 9:11 am Maybe I'm misunderstanding this, but why does it have to be cut or fill. Why can't it be both?
I have a two metre slope across my block, they will do a cut of approximately a metre on the right side and use that to fill the left hand side. So we have cut and fill. I'm just confused as to why this can't be done. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. normally you need both but one may be more than the other.. so it is cheaper to have a bigger cut then the fill. This would require taking dirt away, not bringing it in. Re: Cut and fill on my land block...which is cheaper?? 5Mar 16, 2009 2:14 pm In most cases I have seen, they use the soil from the cut of the foundation to aid with the fill of the foundation. It then needs to be assessed for compaction. We are having a 1m cut and 1m fill on our block.
It's much better using the soil from the cut rather than bringing in soils from other areas. Some areas in Qld will not allow soil in from other regions due to Fire Ant restrictions etc. Built 36sq Plantation "Retreat" on 4460m2 at Spring Mountain, Qld In Living and landscaping.. >>> ... http://retreatspring.blogspot.com 2 5503 Versaloc is a mortarless besser block system that still needs a properly engineered footing. If you just do a 400x200 footing it will fail in time. At 17m long you need it… 1 18074 |
