Hi Everyone! Just had a small issue with our builder (Plantation) and I don’t really know if to let it go or not. We have a sewer line running near the back boundary. Our survey plans indicated that we had to build a 20-40cm high retaining wall across the right hand side of our block and that it would end up "over" the sewer line.
Then due to the fact that the retaining wall ran over the sewer line at the back, Plantation told us that we NEEDED to have our retaining wall engineered and that it would cost $660 if it was organised by them. They also informed us of an additional $400 Council cost for sewer line related applications. Fine – we accepted this and got Plantation to arrange the engineering of the small retaining wall – which if it wasn’t running over a sewer line would only need engineering if over 1 metre.
Today we were told by Plantation that the Private Certifier said we don’t need to submit a sewer application or need it to be engineered. Well we were pretty annoyed at this. $660 just because the builder got it wrong? We emailed our Consultant and they said its “good building practice to have it engineered”. What the?? If we don’t legally have to we ARE following the building practice!
What would anyone else here do? Worth pursuing? Or just let it go and know that because it is engineered now it’s probably better off?
