Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 15, 2009 6:16 pm PD Heywood design seems to be a popular choice of house for homeone members to build I would like to know why you have chosen to build that particular house.
To start with i chose the design for the following reasons 1. well.. i fell in love with the house 2. The home had a homey feel to it 3. plus a good floor plan. Anyone would like to add their reasons? Re: why did you choose to build PD Heywood 2Mar 15, 2009 6:31 pm I didn't build it, but I think it's a great floorplan - except for the silly pantry placement on one side of a walk-through area...we lived in a house with that arrangement and it was a major annoyance.
I love the extended rear al fresco - are you having that, clath, or just the smaller area between the dining and ensuite? The master bedroom is a good size too. There's one for sale in our street - never been lived in, the owners split up before it was completed. Such a shame, it's a lovely home. Re: why did you choose to build PD Heywood 3Mar 15, 2009 6:45 pm HI Kek ive already built the house I ve actually got the pantry on the walkway. I built the 28 in hindsight the 29 would have been better. I guess the problem i have with the pantry is the distance .
I have the grand Alfresco but had to cut the size down by i metre i think because of the fence. Its beaut in summer. And the Court yard but wonder whether the court yard is a waste. Yes have seen a few for sale and they are expensive to buy. Re: why did you choose to build PD Heywood 4Mar 15, 2009 7:17 pm We'd have gone with the Heywood if the lounge was slightly larger. If PD get rid of the space reserved for the 'Court Yard', it'd have been our first preference.
Looking at the Bardot29 and the Heywood29, the look quite the same except few changes Re: why did you choose to build PD Heywood 5Mar 15, 2009 8:25 pm We are almost in our Heywood 29 and i cannot wait to get in and live in all its space. For us this place suited us the best and it meant that most of the house was being utilized without rooms that wouldn't be used. We love the fact there is a courtyard, perfect for breakfast on warm mornings, and an alfesco to share with a group of poeple.
I have seen many people who choosed floorplans that were not the Heywoond and then change them around to the same idea as they Heywood... Its an awsome house...but i might be biased!!! Easier for people who aren't building one or aren't familiar with the floorplan to follow the discussion.
You might even talk more people into building one. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: why did you choose to build PD Heywood 9Mar 16, 2009 11:36 am Why the Heywood:
*** Felt like home as soon as we walked into it! *** Private coutyard ( witch I will fence off as well ) for the girls to chin wag *** Rumpus for the boys to rum amok in *** Got the grad Alfresco option ( this makes the house IMHO) will be great for entertaining ect. *** More space in the Master bedroom than you can poke a stick at. Nice to reteat 2 when there are people over (ie kids) and not be "couped up" in your room. *** Lots of bench space in the kitchen, the kitchen is the hub of the house and you can see all the goings on in the living areas while in the kitchen. ***Kids bedrooms away from master ***Basiclly just ticked all the box's of what we were looking for (apart it was 2 big for our block, had to take 900mm out) Cheers Cozmo http://fromevetoeternity.blogspot.com/ Re: why did you choose to build PD Heywood 10Mar 16, 2009 12:50 pm clath I talk I think it was possible to take off the Court yard .Ive heard of people actually extending the lounge out to the Courtyard. Did you ask PD? You can do this, it's a good idea ! I like the Heywood it's a great floorplan but prefer the Cottesloe, only because you get a study instead of the massive master and you can have french doors off the bedroom into the courtyard. The Grand Alfresco on the heywood is great. Except for the "boys running amok". It's just the two of us for now, but hopefully there will be boys running around in there someday! The Heywood was exactly what we were looking for! We went for the 28 cuz the 29 was slightly too big. We love to entertain so the open plan living/kitchen/dining was what sold it for us. We've got the courtyard to have a nice leisurely breakfast outside on a warm sunny Sunday morning, and then the alfresco for bbqs on warm summer nights. It's my dream home! Re: why did you choose to build PD Heywood 12Mar 16, 2009 10:52 pm UGGG . Joles im having a hard time trying to post a Heywood floor plan.
f there anyone whos got the plan , would they be able to post it for me in this topic thanks Yes true Rellie but one thing i didnt like about the COTTLESOE is that the ensuite faces the front of the house. Re: why did you choose to build PD Heywood 15Mar 17, 2009 7:11 am How many of you Heywoodites (you even have your own name! ) took the option of having a door from the ensuite to the alfresco?
And is there anyone that took the option of both the grand alfresco and the grand courtyard as displayed at Caroline Springs? I remember when I walked through that thinking, I'd do that if I built it. Looked wonderful! But I bet very $$$$ as well. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. We didnt put the door from the ensuite to the courtyard, while it looks nice in the display, in reality I didnt think we would use it as we have use of the whole house and not just the master bedroom. ( think I am saying it would be good in a hotel room to have something like that) Yes to the Grand Alfresco and No to the Grand Courtyard. I will be fenching in the courtyard to come out to the same width as the Alfresco, so wanted some sunlight in the area as well. ( And we were pushing the budget as well) Grand Alfresco option will set you back just over 9k cheers Cozmo http://fromevetoeternity.blogspot.com/ Re: why did you choose to build PD Heywood 17Mar 18, 2009 3:40 pm Thanks mushroom i got a headache trying to post that plan ,
I wish i could have had a door from the ensuite into the Courtyard but i put a spa in. and the vanity went were the door would have gone. I Talk My plans include the Grand Alfresco. The Alfresco is from the sliding door (Eating area up to the Rumpus room and out nearly to the fence. But id have to scan them and download to photo bucket u know the drill cant be bothered doing it but look at the plan on here and will give you an idea what im talking about. Anyone that decks or landscapes their Heywood would like to see your pics if you take any. Re: why did you choose to build PD Heywood 18Mar 18, 2009 6:20 pm hi we have nearly finished our cottleloe we deleted the courtyard by extending lounge and put a wall along hallway put doors next to meals and made it into h/t room! rupus is for the kids witch we put a cav slider to access from bedroom hallway
it all finished just the touch ups to do!!!!! Re: why did you choose to build PD Heywood 19Mar 18, 2009 8:14 pm joles - we went with the standard courtyard and alfresco but plan we ave enough land on that side that we are planning (in time and when money permits) to extend both these areas with slad and also the roofline for a more tradtional looking pergola.
Maybe this is an option you could also think about. Sharon & Paul ********************* Creating Youngs Castle Heywood 29 in Craigieburn http://youngscastle.blogspot.com/ Re: why did you choose to build PD Heywood 20Mar 18, 2009 8:21 pm Shazburger, I'm not building this one... I was just being really nosey to see what people had done.
I like your idea extending the two under roof areas with a pergola. I think this is one of the better Lifestyle plans. We have a Heywood just completed on our street, and a Cottesloe just starting two doors down from us. It's so interesting watching how people do different things to personalise the exact same home, so that no two end up alike. I'm a bit of a floorplan junkie/sticky beak! I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick 6 11469 That sucks! Hope it all works out. Good to move away from steel anyway for all your reasons, but it's also thermally poor. 16 17724 Hi All, I just wanted to close this topic out with an update.
