Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 12, 2009 1:36 pm Back in October we organised a tender for the house we are going to build......4 months on and a few hiccups in the mean time and finally we went to council last week - only to have the plans sent back to the builder because the elevations were missing the current house (even though the council has already approved a demo on it so makes no sense to me). So here we are back in drafting with changes being made.
I don't know if it's just me but this seems so excrutiatingly long it might be a bit of a farce. Am I impatient? I know all builders are different and that building is very stressful but seriously I thought all the stress was meant to come during the build - not at this early stage. Sorry to rant I'm just losing motivation as my balloon keeps getting popped!! 4 months just seems so LLLOOONNGGGG already Council will take about 3 months, then there's about a 2 month wait for the construction plans and contract to be drawn up. I just want it to get a move on! I can't imagine that it's going to be another 5 months before we see any action. Re: How long from display to build... 3Mar 12, 2009 1:43 pm I don't want to talk about it. Makes me and makes me .
7 or 8 months with the first builder.... gave up when they couldn't do the drawings correctly. Took 3 months just for a quote/tender from the second builder........ I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: How long from display to build... 4Mar 12, 2009 2:10 pm 20+ months from when we first met our builder to construction start. 18months from when we signed the contract for the land.
Buy shares in kleenex and stock up on Vitamin B Executive Stress. We wont be in any hurry to play this game again. The rain is still adding to our pain. Re: How long from display to build... 6Mar 12, 2009 3:00 pm Thanks guys for sharing my pain. I guess I don't want to feel like I'm the only one and it's kind of "normal". Re: How long from display to build... 7Mar 12, 2009 3:03 pm first walked into JG K1ng display in August 08. Site started feb 09 and currently about to have plaster installed. Re: How long from display to build... 9Mar 12, 2009 4:00 pm Something to keep in mind is that the delay from signing up to starting to build will also depend on when people's land gets titled 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' We are at nearly a year from very first tender, to now. We did have 6 months in council. DA was approved mid Jan 2009, and we are still waiting for engineering reports to get our construction certificate.
I'm so over it and we haven't even moved any dirt on the site yet Hopefully I'll see some action in the next month (but this goalpost keeps moving and moving. What is painful is when people say, "So are you in your new house yet - Grrrrrr " BTW - established area Still not in. Don't ask!? Re: How long from display to build... 11Mar 12, 2009 4:31 pm bel " BTW - established area Oh Bel you poor thing. 6 months is just horrible. Why is it taking so long to get the CC? Craziness! Must an established area be a curse or something?? If I didn't dearly love the suburb I'm in I would just go out and buy some land and start afresh!! Well I probably wouldn't in reality but sometimes I just feel like I'm being punished for wanting to knock my house down Re: How long from display to build... 12Mar 12, 2009 4:35 pm buildingadreamhome Must an established area be a curse or something?? I too love my suburb too much, hence going through all this cr@p! The delay in getting the CC is part builder fault (they are slack) and part it's a hard block so I suppose the engineering diagrams take a while. Also we needed extra stuff that were DA conditions, so again it takes more time - and money. Grrr double Grrr! (Aren't you glad you got me started! ) Still not in. Don't ask!? Re: How long from display to build... 13Mar 12, 2009 4:54 pm Paid intial deposit in July 2008, finally signed off on plans only approx 10 days ago March 2009, due their mistakes one example was that they had deleted my power point in the bathroom and I was the opne to have picked up on it and I am not a builder Was to start this week, well tomorrow but no word from them, made contact and now it shall be another fortnight, due to lack of staffing... Am over the whole process at the moment... Re: How long from display to build... 14Mar 12, 2009 5:28 pm You are definitely not alone there!
We signed our tender on the 21 December 2008 and the drawings are still coming back with errors. Not sure how it happens, but things dissapear and other's get changed wrongly when we didn't request a change in that area at all. Our room measurements have changed from the original drawings issued 2 months ago, I just don't understand it. We are also building in an established area so Council will probably be 3 months minimum. Our land settled in October 08 and that's when we signed to get a tender, so I guess since then it has been 5 months, I thougth we would have started building by now too... I was hoping to be in our new home by Xmas this year but I guess that's not going to be possible Oh Bel! I thought you would have had your CC by now! why are the builders so slack! I hope you get some action very soon! Re: How long from display to build... 15Mar 12, 2009 6:22 pm Wakeboardandy is just having a freakishly good run. So was Ryan Oliver last time I looked. I want to be them. Re: How long from display to build... 16Mar 12, 2009 7:13 pm JellyLegs Wakeboardandy is just having a freakishly good run. So was Ryan Oliver last time I looked. I want to be them. we paid our initial deposit at the end of november and we are going to site from the 30th March onwards. Only 9 days in council! Re: How long from display to build... 17Mar 12, 2009 7:52 pm We couldn't settle on a design and after many dead ends signed with Big M. After 6 weeks without as much as a 'hello' I phoned them and started asking around. That seemed to spur things into action a bit. Any body's guess if it'll stay that way Re: How long from display to build... 18Mar 12, 2009 8:04 pm buildingadreamhome I don't know if it's just me but this seems so excrutiatingly long it might be a bit of a farce. We paid our deposit about a week and a half ago and I was annoyed that we hadn't heard anything since..not even a thanks for the deposit or even a receipt, which I thought was a bit slack. So this week I went back to the display to catch up with our sales guy and discovered that he'd processed all of the paperwork and a soil test was being done this week. Quite suprised to say the least. I will implode with frustration if I have to wait as long as you have...so the short answer is no you are not impatient! That's nothing - try waiting 3+ years for land I just see every delay in title registration and site start as a chance to save more $$$ to put towards the finishing touches. Yes - I am dying to be in - but I want a finished product that is perfect! After 4 years - we're in! Yes - I am dying to be in - but I want a finished product that is perfect! 3 years! Wow!! I don't know how you've done it!! I agree with the saving part though. Every month gives us extra $$ we can put towards landscaping, blinds etc. Now if it took another six months on top of the wait we are already expecting we might be able to save for some furniture! Congratulations! Nice to put that to bed before christmas, now you can relax 3 7180 What?
