Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 10, 2009 11:34 am Hi guys
We've narrowed down our brick choices to two now. However, we would still like to finalise the overall colour scheme before committing to any brick colour. Your help would be greatly appreciated Would you go for the lighter brick colour on the sides and darker in the middle, or red on the sides and darker in the middle? Also, what do you think of colour scheme in general? 1. http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p137/poiuytrewq_043/houselatestboralsoftsuedewooddoors.jpg 2. http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p137/poiuytrewq_043/houselatestboralsoftsuede.jpg 3. http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p137/poiuytrewq_043/houselatestjarrahboralfinalwooddoor.jpg 4. http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p137/poiuytrewq_043/houselatestjarrahboralfinalwhiteroo.jpg 5. http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p137/poiuytrewq_043/houselatestjarrahboralfinalgreyr-1.jpg 6. http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p137/poiuytrewq_043/houselatestjarrahboralfinalgreyroof.jpg 7. http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p137/poiuytrewq_043/houselatestjarrahboralfinal.jpg Re: Please help us choose our colour scheme :) 2Mar 10, 2009 12:42 pm I like the darker bricks! So the middle one looks good but maybe try a lighter roof - maybe charcoal instead of black.
Alot of people (including me) go for a darker roof and bricks then cream coloured gutters and that! see how it goes so it doesn't look too dark =) Re: Please help us choose our colour scheme :) 3Mar 10, 2009 4:04 pm georgie I like the darker bricks! Have you ever seen brick painted a soft yellow? That would look nice with the siding to match and the shingles to remain as they are. I have picutres of brick houses in a soft yeoow. if I can remember when i get to work tomorrow I wll send one home and I will post one for you. I think your house looks awesome. Re: Please help us choose our colour scheme :) 8Mar 10, 2009 6:25 pm I think the lighter brick looks more modern, and the red brick looks more traditional. Both look great, it depends what look you are after.
I think when you pick the bricks, that will help you decide the window style as well. I'd go for more modern windows with light brick and more traditional with the red. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Personally I love the lighter rendered with the dark roof - but I would add in a feature wall in the middle - and go the same for the garage door. Again though, it depends on what YOU like. I'm not a big fan of red bricks, or bricks really for that matter. I prefer the larger block-y type ones so it looks more like a cottage! Or Light bricks with dark grout? Re: Please help us choose our colour scheme :) 13Mar 12, 2009 3:56 pm Most brick places will have a list of houses in your vicinity so that you can check out houses built with the bricks you have narrowed down to. We had a difficulty deciding light or dark. Until we went and looked at the houses built with those bricks.
Our conclusion was that we liked the lighter bricks because it gives the house a rendered look without all the $$$ but the downside was that it looked cheaper. In the end....we went with darker brick, dark roof and rendered areas to tie the whole look together. Love the look of the house you are building and while it comes down to personal choice, I prefer darker brick with off white mortar. If you can afford to get some areas rendered....like the front portico up to the balcony, it would be absolutely gorgeous. I think a brown brick.....would be better suited than a red brick. Austral Homestead Tan is what we picked with a Dark Charcoal roof. Render colours are Paperbark and Ironstone. Re: Please help us choose our colour scheme :) 14Mar 14, 2009 5:38 pm Honestly, I am not really fussed with the colours, as long as the colour scheme doesnt date. I would hate to regret the colour choice of the bricks/roof in 20 years time. What colours would you recommend? Re: Help me decide what brick colour and front door to go for? 18Mar 29, 2009 6:08 pm I love the third pic you posted at the start. with the feature bricks down the middle. I think that will add a lot of character and give great street appeal. I like lighter bricks something like castellano by pgh then the centre bricks (feature) being darker. Maybe PGH mocha. then dark roof and dark timber door. ahhh. that is a great looking house. I really think the third pic you posted will look great.
