Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 09, 2009 4:11 pm Hi All,
I think most builders just offer 1 hanging rails in all wardrobes, I feel this is a waste of space and not a good wardrobe designs. Have any of you made changes to the wardrobes like adding shelves or drawers....... Also if the builder charges a lot to make smarter wardrobes.. then wat options are available. thnx Re: Wardrobe solutions 2Mar 09, 2009 4:20 pm Yes, that is the basic design which most builders offer for WIR's; I think many people add shelves, drawers etc.
Ours just has a hanging rail on both sides and a shelf above this - the shelf is very handy for suitcases, blankets etc and we have 2 freestanding tallboys at the back and a shoe rack each on the floor underneath the hanging clothes and a dressing table in the main part of the bedroom, this does fine for us. Unless Bunnings uses Festool saws, I personally wouldn't be game on getting them to cut it for me. Melamine and the like need to be cut carefully with special saws (or blades) as the cutting using normal saws tends to make the ends brittle. Maybe one of the kitchen makers can explain what I tried to better. I'm getting shelves in all the BIR as well as railings. And for the 2 walk ins getting a mixture of full length, half length, shelves etc. Partner will do all that as he has festool saws specifically for those purposes. I would suggest you get a cabinet maker to cut you what you need to size personally, however you supply materials and should be dirt cheap. Re: Wardrobe solutions 5Mar 10, 2009 5:50 pm If you are planning on adding fitouts later, get the builder to raise the standard shelf and rail. Easy to add a second rail later, but if the top rail and shelf is too low, they will also have to be altered. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself.
