Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 09, 2009 12:25 pm Hey guys,
I want to know if we can hang a TV on our room wall. I am not sure if the plasterboard can hold the wait of a 47 inch TV. Do we need to ask the builder to add more depth to a particular wall to be able to do that? Thanks! Re: can you hang a TV on the wall? 3Mar 09, 2009 12:37 pm I'm not sure which stage of your build you are at, but If it's not too late, get the chippies to add extra noggins to the wall frames that you are likely to mount TV brackets to. This will make things a lot easier when the time comes. You need to do what has already been advised, best of luck! Re: can you hang a TV on the wall? 6Mar 09, 2009 1:27 pm FarRez is it expensive to add extra noggins? we are almost about to sign the tender and give the commencement fee. It really depends on your builder and how 'flexible' they are. Usually, there are plenty of timber 'offcuts' on site that would suffice for extra noggins. If you are allowed, visit the site at frame stage and ask the chippies nicely, they may be happy enough to do this for you. Sometimes, you are able to negotiate these little extra jobs with the various tradies and offer them some 'cash in hand' for their trouble. Re: can you hang a TV on the wall? 7Mar 09, 2009 2:58 pm Just keep some spare cash for the bracket .
You can get some cheap ones around eg $60 ,but do you really want to risk a broken plasma by skimping on the bracket? I think not Brackets will cost anywhere from 100-200 for standard and if you are wanting it in a special spot or moveable can be up to $400. Get a stud finder from bunnings. Find a good location with stud, place bracket where the stud is and mark the holes for the screws. It's fairly easy but just make sure it's the correct bracket. And where does one buy a bracket from?? And is there a different bracket for every size tv? Or is it a one size fits all thing? Fi has moved in!! Re: can you hang a TV on the wall? 11Mar 09, 2009 5:32 pm Interesting question this!
When the data/phone/tv guys were roughing out our house (prior to plastering) I asked them where should we put our noggins? Their response was that we didn't need noggins to wall mount a tv; they believed that the existing studs would provide all the support necessary. Our SS (who has been very honest and accommodating) agreed with this opinion also. So, do you really need noggins as well as studs or can you get by with the studs only? You can just use the existing studs, BUT your positioning may not end up exactly where you want it (eg, centered to the room). Ahh you crazy queenslanders ... $60 is plenty to spend on a bracket to hold a 60" lcd/plasma. The difference between a $60 bracket and a $200 bracket is generally where it is bought from and the brand... Go have a look around your local shops and see which brands they have. I wonder if we supply them as well http://www.selbyacoustics.com.au and specifically for brackets for lcd's and plasma's: http://www.selbyacoustics.com.au/storefrontprofiles/deluxeSFshop.aspx?sid=1&sfid=74520&c=84145 Re: can you hang a TV on the wall? 14Mar 09, 2009 8:48 pm She&He+3+3 You don't 'need' extra noggins to wall mount, and you can get by without them, but they certainly make it easier.
