We are currently building a modified Stylmaster Baybreeze 27 with an attached granny flat. This has been a disaster in some cases and far too much stress for all of us. What sealed the deal for too was the free ducted aircon, but we really feel as though its not worth it. For starters they got took months for council approval - fair enough, we did have a granny flat, but after speaking to other builders, this is excessive, seeing as they have their own certifiers. We don't have town sewage, and they quoted us almost $25k on the contract which we said no to. (we are now under $10k by going independently).... Bottom line is they have made a huge error and we are seeking legal advise to see how to deal with this. Re: Anyone built/building with Stylemaster Homes Qld 10Sep 27, 2009 11:53 am We are building a modified Baybreeze 27 with them now. Roof on, brickwork finished soon and plastering to start next week or so. The Good; Priced reasonably in comparison to almost all the others we saw. Staff reasonably friendly and helpful where they can. Reasonably flexible with design. Once building has started, things seem to go relatively quickly. That said, we have a fair way to go yet. The bonus package was included for us as we started the process way back in March 09. [Foundations laid first week of August09, this should give an idea of how slow their admin is.] The Bad; Slowest admin in the cosmos. Took us a ridiculously long time to get to contract stage. Minor changes would take about 4 weeks to turn around from them. Didn't put the rented security fence up until one of the neighbours told the site supervisor that kids had been playing in the lot and putting rocks and mud down the plumbing fixtures. *Wonders if that will come back to haunt him* Have tried to add a few thousand for a variation on screw piers. Apparently it went "over" the provisional sum. Queried admin, they sent me the builders invoice and it actually came under the provisional. *Wonders where the mystical extra costs came from* This one is still to be settled, will let you folks know how we go. Standard tile/wet area selection is very restrictive. Going outside this is extraordinarily expensive. I reckon they should rethink this pricing as they could make more money by making the barrier to "upgrade" lower. Message me privately if you want to know more about specific costs. FYI - we chose to do fencing, carpet, tiles, driveway, alfresco concrete and alfresco tiles with separate contractors. Essentially they were asking too much for average selections. We upgraded to top notch porcelain 600x600 tiles and carpet by sourcing ourselves. I expect driveways and fencing to be similar based on my research and these forums. I haven’t. But have a Lowe Design home. Not only did I find Matt Lowe patronising and a bully, but the home is NOT TO CODE.
