My builder is charging the following prices, i just want to find out if its resonable acc your experience. Im builing in Melbourne. 1. Sectional garadge with 2 remote = $1800 2. Addtional power pt = $55 3.Laminate flr boards = $100 - $150/sq m (includes laying costs) 4. Additional light pt = $80 Thanks Re: Is this Cost resonable 2Mar 06, 2009 8:49 pm all sound reasonable. They have some markup.
except for the laminated floors. Which type is that. The price you have been quoted is more like solid timber flooring. Laminate for example can be bought for as little as 13 per square meter. Re: Is this Cost resonable 3Mar 06, 2009 9:34 pm We are having proper timber floor and it is costing about the same.
Everything sounds about normal to me too. Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. Remember, amateurs built the ark, and professionals built the Titanic." Re: Is this Cost resonable 4Mar 06, 2009 9:54 pm thanks all... your feedback increases my comfort level with the builder Re: Is this Cost resonable 5Mar 06, 2009 10:37 pm The sectional garage with remote I presume is an upgrade from the basic roller door. If an upgrade, then $1000-$1200 may be more realistic (based on quotes we have had).
As for the laminate flooring, that appears quite steep bearing in mind installation is non-specialist (ie you can DIY). The light points seem to be average though. Building the 22sq Ashton Re: Is this Cost resonable 6Mar 06, 2009 11:46 pm We were quoted ~$600 to change a sectional garage to remote sectional, and out prices for the other stuff is about the same. We havent asked about wood floors though. Re: Is this Cost resonable 7Mar 07, 2009 8:38 am I agree that that is rather pricey for the laminate. We are having Formica Laminate and it's $70 sqm installed. Supply is $35sqm.
I would check what brand they are supplying and then check out your local carpet/flooring store for a cost comparison. Re: Is this Cost resonable 8Mar 07, 2009 9:19 am Actually for the price of laminate flooring, you can even get "Karndean" (with installation) which is more durable and water resistant. Also comes in "plank" lookalike.. and looks really good too. They are available from most carpet stores. Alternatively you can also get floating timber installed at that price..
