Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 05, 2009 1:48 pm Hi Guys, Have been reading H1 for some time now and getting some great advice Thought it might be time to start my Thread. !! This is our first home either bought or built. We are building the Aston with Clarendon Homes. Made a few mods to the original plans. The current ensuite used to have a wall down the middle, one side was ENS and the other WIR. I really wanted a spa in our ensuite so we knocked out the middle wall and made the entire thing ENS. See our new plans below This meant all I had to do was extend the back wall of the bedroom and put the WIR behind the bed!! We are very excited and Site works start next week!!!! MellyBuilding PICS!!!!!! 6Mar 10, 2009 7:14 am Hello everyone!!
We have made our electrical appointment for tomorrow. We were meant to get a pack sent out from the electrician, it was meant to be here Monday but as yet have not received anything. Did anyone else get a pack from their electrician?? I havent heard from my SS yet. They said he will call sometime this week to introduce himself and let me know whats been booked. They were meant to start site works this week but we have had two days of unfortunate rain so I think it may not happen till maybe Friday or Monday. DH is driving past the block on the way home from work everyday just to see if there is a Cl@rendon sign Living in Caloundra Thread****** Lovin my house all finished!!! MellyBuilding PICS!!!!!! 9Mar 17, 2009 9:57 am ACTION ACTION ACTION I got an email from our CSO stating our start date is a little up in the air at the moment due to the weather, so I was thinking it would prob be a couple of weeks till site start. , There was a cyclone fence surrounding the property and the plumbers were there with the bobcats etc putting in the pipes!!!!!! I asked him to take a photo for me but he said he didnt want to look like he was sticky beaking so was hiding behind the swing set!!!! I will drive up after work today to see what they have done. Hopefully they finish it all today. It should be easy to dig the ground is quite soft from all the rain. Living in Caloundra Thread****** Lovin my house all finished!!! The pipes were in the wrong spot and had to be moved 2 in the ensuite ( shower and toilet) and 1 in the bathroom see below. Our SS assured us it will be fine. They filled with concrete and added extra termite protection. With Window splashback that will look out over the yard!! I do have a few worries about some of the mortar. Some areas it looks way to thick. Im not sure what the building standards are for mortar thickness. Oh well our independent handover inspector should pick up these things. If anybody does know what the max thickness for mortar should be please let me know. I do have a few bricks with chiped corners and a couple that they have used the back of the brick. ( bit slack) at least its in areas not really noticeable. But i will bring up with SS Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We were going for a rendered look without actually getting render ( couldnt afford it ) But we are really happy with the colour of the bricks. It was a last minute decision to get the flush mortar too. I think that has really helped. They havent cleaned the bricks yet, But once done it will get rid of that "mottly" look. Notice the fence on the left has just been put up. I cant wait till they take down the cyclone fence so I can really feel how big it is. Note the block next door is zero lot line! so their garage forms part of our fence line. Bothered me at the start but not now., I can plant a really nice tree in front of it and make it a feature The colour they have painted is quite similar to our house too. And you can really nbotice my wall on the righ of the pic. Those bricks do really make it look rendered, oh well, at least bag and painted! Lots of pics :) 14Jun 16, 2009 9:02 pm Great stuff Mel I love the sweet idea of putting coins under the slab Where abouts in qld are you, I just moved back from there! Couldnt believe how small the blocks were and how much they cost! But they put some amazing homes on them way out of my price range Looking forward to seeing the kitchen and bathrooms develop, I luvvvvvvvvv that part Know where your going in life............... you may already be there Re: PHOTO FEST 2009 Ive started my Thread. Lots of pics :) 16Jun 16, 2009 9:12 pm HE HE yeah i got a bit excited. I put a 2009 coin in the slab for luck and then hid a 5 dollar note in the mortar of one of the pillars and some coins in others. hahaha. I wonder though..... with the current economic climate. I hope I dont have to dig out that 5 bucks one day!!! We paid 288000 for the block Which is expensive, but, for the beach and the sunny coast its not i spose. We were originally looking at Naragba on the Northside and the block for the same size was 240,000. So for the extra 48,000 we could be so close to the beach, and I couldnt keep driving past, we had to have it where about did you live in QLD? Yeah I cant WAIT for the kitchen splashback to go in. And the breakfast bar. I lOVE kitchens. Our tiles were delivered Today so hopefully, maybe, crossed fingers, starting at end of the week. Thanks Kyton!! They are PGH Bricks Sand Dune- Sometimes called Paddington. The offwhite mortar really lightened them up too. SS organised for us to get the flush mortar too. no extra cost !!!we just bought the brickie a carton. I was so happy!!! I knew the vanity was going to be big. But when I actually saw it sitting in our bedroom. I thought they had stuffed up. Its massive. Im so excited. Im already planning on all the "glass vase thingos" that I can put loufas and soaps in. < DH rolling his eyes> 2.4 metre vanity?? you must have a big bathroom too??? Have you already got yours in?? What stage are you up to? Do you know at what stage they normally deliver the benchtops?? Would it be before tiling splashbacks?? Living in Caloundra Thread****** Lovin my house all finished!!! The blocks there started from $300,000 for around 400sqm I drove past dicky beach on my way to maroochydore and bought a bathing costume at caloundra (still cant fit into it though) the idea was there buy a bit smaller to loose some weight Its a lovely part of the word maybe if I had been able to live in mooloolabah or broadbeach or somewhere on the coast I could have settled but the city lifestyle wasnt for me. Still love to go for holidays though Know where your going in life............... you may already be there Re: MellyBuilding PHOTO FEST 2009 Ive started my Thread!! 20Jun 16, 2009 10:18 pm Your bricks look great.
