Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 03, 2009 9:42 am Hi all,
The Estate I'm building my house in won't have optical fibre links delivered to homes, instead the old copper lines will be used instead. I was wondering who decides if this estate deserves optical fibre or copper ?? Is is Telstra or the land developer ? I spoke to the engineer from Delfin and he said it's up to Telstra to decide !! Can you shed a light on this mater please ? Thanks Re: Who decides the installation of broadband/phone systems ? 2Mar 03, 2009 9:55 am I thought it was the developer.
I'd prefer to be on copper - that way you get ADSL2 at a decent price. I'm in a FTTH estate - the minimum you'll pay for a 1GB package is $99 After 4 years - we're in! Re: Who decides the installation of broadband/phone systems ? 3Mar 03, 2009 10:18 am stonecutter1309 I'm in a FTTH estate - the minimum you'll pay for a 1GB package is $99 Thats a Telstra FTTH connection though. Internode's prices will be well below that. I Just hope we dont end up where each suburb has one provider of decent net, as they will still RIM the phone lines, so FTTH is the only decent option Re: Who decides the installation of broadband/phone systems ? 4Mar 03, 2009 10:25 am Hellman109 I Just hope we dont end up where each suburb has one provider of decent net, as they will still RIM the phone lines, so FTTH is the only decent option No ADSL2 here (no ports left), but at least they didn't skimp on the copper... Re: Who decides the installation of broadband/phone systems ? 5Mar 03, 2009 10:41 am +1 to preferring copper - ADSL is much cheaper! They then approach either Telstra or Opticomm to deploy fiber... Internode goes through Opticomm and their prices are way more affordable than Telstra. ADSL just have too many limitation which could degrade your line speed, so I would prefer fiber... Too bad I dont have that and I live about 4km from my exchange Wisdom Homes Manhattan 39 Blog - https://edmondson-park.blogspot.com.au H1 Thread - https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=88210 Re: Who decides the installation of broadband/phone systems ? 7Mar 03, 2009 12:58 pm alot of estates arn't even lucky enough to have that. Most "infrastructure " is determined by the developer and as far as BB and other "highend" services these are a 'cost" and they ususaly don't cater for this.. and telstra only have a oblicgation to get Dial tone to your house.. so that means a RIM .... which means no adsl at all. which then is a pain the butt to get in decent copper to do the job tho.. we are talking estates that are already established, newer ones are realising they can fetch a better price for fully serviced estates.... The only option is dial up or Telstra Next G - thats it.
I have enquired through numerous ISP's and they allways say I can get ADSL as the local exchange has ADSL but when they actually go to connect me they allways come back and tell me it's a no go. I can't believe developers get away with building new estates that don't have internet access. For me it is a massive problem as the wireless service doesnt cut the mustard and is expensive. There seems to be no alternative. The funny thing is I have neighbours either side of me who have ADSL and no one anywhere can explain to me how this was possible - I even went to the same ISP's and they told me it isn't available. Im so damn frustrated with it... Re: Who decides the installation of broadband/phone systems ? 9Mar 03, 2009 4:13 pm Mozzie In my estate we have no access to any form of ADSL or cable at all.
