Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 28, 2009 6:54 am After 26mths of being messed around by our builders, we are pulling the pin. Contract had not been signed, but we had council approval. We do not wish to go over this all again with another builder. It has left us very disappinted and sad
Do we have to inform council of our intentions not to build, before putting the land up for sale? Thanks Re: Not building 2Feb 28, 2009 7:53 am I so sorry you have been treated in
such a way where you feel you have to pull out and not fufill your building dream, how very disheartening for you. Good-Luck with what ever happens. Building Thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=13002 Site start: 8th July 2009 Handover: 11/12/2009! 5 months total build time. 40 sqs of luxuary...Bliss! Re: Not building 3Feb 28, 2009 7:59 am Over 2 years - that's a long time to have your plans on hold !!!
How disappointing for you - but I guess you got to the stage of 'damage limitations' - better to pull the pin and start afresh than keep banging your head on a (unbuilt) brick wall. What do you intend to do now - buy an established house or just stay where you are for now? Sorry, I dont know the answer to your question - perhaps give council a ring and ask them? Re: Not building 4Feb 28, 2009 9:22 am I don't think you need to inform the Council. A DA runs out after 5 years and I'm not sure what happens with a CC. Those documents are your authority to build; they do not compel you to build.
Check with the Council, but I'm pretty certain you're OK. Sorry to hear about your dilemma. Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Re: Not building 5Feb 28, 2009 10:16 am Hi, sorry to hear that. I know what it's like to lose a dream. We had a block of land in a neighbouring suburb and tried for 18 months to get a house built - in the end we sold up too - it just got too hard. We just felt in the end that even if the issues could have been sorted we would not have felt the same about living there given the heartache and tears. Sometimes, it can be good to move on though. We are now building in a totally different area and should have a March start date. We're really happy with our decision now - the house we build will come in way cheaper than the original ever would have so we have loads of extras, can put in the pool we wanted and we get the FHOG. Good luck with what you do next - hope it works out better for you in the end. Re: Not building 6Feb 28, 2009 12:26 pm sorry to hear that thegang this building caper results in some extreme highs and lows ... shows how much of a gamble it really is. Good luck with whatever you decide to do next and hope you stick around to give/get advice with your new journey "Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions." — Elizabeth Gilbert Living in our new house. Re: Not building 7Feb 28, 2009 1:33 pm Thats really sad to hear but we can all only imagine what you might have gone through and hopefully you will find the right home for you. Council don't need to know but probably good just to inform them nothing going ahead so you don't get some painful letter asking about your build.
