Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Builder Reviews - Perth WA 881Oct 02, 2009 2:02 pm Thanks Nicci, I may have bricks laid then... coolio - right on the 3 week mark for the slab too. I'll have to check it out tomorrow. I stopped by on the way home yesterday and the bricks were all there, as well as a shed and portaloo - And they had filled in the huge hole in my backyard, which made me happy - I was worried I'd have to buy even more sand once they were finished! Re: Builder Reviews - Perth WA 882Oct 13, 2009 3:50 pm You must be so excited kash, your house is coming along so quickly.. the tradies are there every day and at 6am, im pretty sure most of the days you have 3 brickies working.. they like their music real loud. Its been 9 weeks since we've moved in and finally we are getting our lawn on saturday, we've only sealed some of the areas(still need to do bedrooms & bathrooms) and i still have 2 unpacked boxes. Time flys with new houses. Ill try put pics up this weekend when we have some lawn. Next weekend we'll do some gardening and have plants except zulu our furbaby eats all our plants Home Group WA Monte Carlo Timeline on Page 1 Re: Builder Reviews - Perth WA 883Oct 16, 2009 12:41 pm Just to update my hole-in-the-ceiling saga, we're living in our new place now and we did manage to reach a resolution with Homestart. I still don't know what really caused the damage but I don't really care any more, cause it's all fixed and we didn't have to pay for all of it. Homestart agreed to meet halfway and cover 50% of the cost of repairing, which was a fair outcome in my mind as contractually they didn't have to agree to this. As such we picked up our keys on September 18 and within around 2 weeks all of the damage to the house was fixed, which coincided well with us finishing internal painting. We've been living there for a couple of weeks now and it's been great. Overall it's not an experience I'd want to go through again, but I'm very pleased with the end result. Re: Builder Reviews - Perth WA 885Oct 19, 2009 3:47 pm furiousgibbon: I'm glad they ended up paying some of it, it sounded like such a horrible experience to have to go through/ Nicci: Good news for you - no more 6am brickies though hopefully (for me at least) they'll be replaced with a new trade pretty quick! The kitchen and a couple of diagonal walls hadn't been done when I stopped by friday arvo, but by sunday it was all done, and most of the inside mess cleaned up. I'm quite impressed they worked Saturday with it being so hot. It ended up taking them just over two weeks to finish all the bricking. someone's managed to take a chunk out of the retaining wall I had to pay for though, so I've started my list of things to get fixed already. Don't think there's any point in ponting it out just yet, I'm sure someone else will hit it at some point, and the majority of it is actually buried under a heap of extra sand, so it'll be interesting to see what that looks like if/when they unbury it. Re: Builder Reviews - Perth WA 886Oct 20, 2009 10:35 am kash, your brickies were hilarious on saturday.. every couple minutes they'd be yelling and swearing there heads off because of the heat.. we were working on the grass on saturday so we died too and listening to them was what made the day a little bit better. I wonder how someone did that.. do you think maybe one of your brickies did it by accident with a car or bobcat or trailer or something? Well someone moved in opposite me and next to AJ so theres 3 people living on the street now. I think the people are renting as all the moved in with was two suitcases. Still no news on when they are going to fix the park area up. The mosquitos that are breeding there are some kind of monsters.. They are massive.. I managed to get in before the FHOG + Booster finishes at the end of this year..and am really happy with the floorplan I chose... Which plans did you guys go with? Any advice for me as I have not been to pre-start yet, but have been thinking about light placements and other things.. Regards, michme John J S Hi...this is John from Perth, building our first home in Perth, WA, so we are very new to the process and learning as we go. We are building in Harrisdale( near canningvale) We have choosen Homestart as our builder and wud b gr8 to hear reviews from someone who has built with them. I am also new to this building process and will be building in the same area and with the same builder - Homestart. Also new to this website. I have found them very helpful so far, but hey I haven't signed the building contract as yet. Am waiting on the land titles to issue. I'm also eligible for the FHOG so my contract has to be signed by the end of this month. Will see how that goes but I have something in writing from Homestart saying that my contract will definately be signed before then. We have put a deposit down on a block in the Perth area and we're looking into builders and designs. I noticed that quite a number of people seem to be using HBC. Is everyone happy with them then? Re: Builder Reviews - Perth WA 895Feb 02, 2010 4:48 pm Japonica26 Hi there, I just found this forum and I'm starting to go through the 45 pages of this thread. Well, not everyone is happy, if you want to see how bad things can get check out Lynne's thread - she is currently having a horrible time of it. However, I'm quite happy with how my build has gone so far (just finishing things off at the moment, I'm probably a week or two behind Lynne). We've had a couple of minor problems with extra items being left off electrical drawings, but both times we got an apology and a we'll fix that, even though we didn't notice till well into building for one of the errors. I'm waiting now to see how they deal with the bigger issue of our somewhat smashed up retaining wall, and some other quality problems we'll raise at PCI. You can paint if you want to... but if cracks appear, the builder will patch them up but won't repaint (as they didn't paint in the first place) so you'll have to do it yourselves. That's why most people don't recommend painting until after 6 months. New beginnings. It sounds like in the long run it would be more worth while waiting until the foundations and walls have settled and then paint... as you have the rest of your life to be able to paint waiting six months I spose wont kill us!
