Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 27, 2009 11:05 am Hi, we are building in Western Australia with a project builder.
For any variation changes, ie tiling increase size ... we have to pay a $400 variation fee, plus the cost of the actual change. What are other people's builders variation fees? I am curious, as I think $400 is quite a lot. Re: Variation Fees 2Feb 27, 2009 11:10 am We are building in WA too. Our variation fee is $150. We have only paid it once, and we are onto variation 10. We added our variations to things the builder had to change, and other times they waived the fee Re: Variation Fees 4Feb 27, 2009 11:30 am Yep $400 for us but that's more for after plans have been submitted to review panel or council. i think anything outside their standard range is extra anyway Blog - http://clageonewhouse.blogspot.com/ Building Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=10886&hilit=milan I am in, with my husband and my beautiful bunny Re: Variation Fees 6Feb 27, 2009 12:13 pm davden, we chose 300x300 porcelain tiles. There was no variation but we were charged a huge amount as they were non- standard size, porcelain and they were $20 more per metre than our allowance. For the 2 bathrooms,3 toilets and laundry it was around $6000. We decided we really wanted the tiles so we chose to accept the cost! Re: Variation Fees 7Feb 27, 2009 1:16 pm We had to pay for any difference between the builders range and the extras we chose.
But there was no fee for making a variation. Living in Caloundra Thread****** Lovin my house all finished!!! There was a $50 fee if we changed anything after the final contract - which I think is fair enough. The rep told us this fee was sometimes not enforced if it was only one or two variations, it was only really in place to stop people constantly changing their minds. As we didn't make any changes after final contract (except some tiles but that's because they went out of stock, not a change from our end) we didn't get to test this out. Re: Variation Fees 9Feb 27, 2009 1:53 pm Our variation fee is $400 each time. They tried to tell us that we would be liable for one this week as the walk-in pantry wasn't designed properly as per my instructions from the very start of the design process. Needless to say a very strongly worded email pointing out my disappointment as well as proof that I had previously asked for the amendment prior to contract led to a nice confirmation that the variation fee would not be charged. Love my building supervisor (well this week anyhoo!!) Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Variation Fees 11Feb 28, 2009 6:44 pm we've been told $600, but now that I've seen everyone else's fee I'm not too happy about that! A thankful person is a happy person.
