Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 26, 2009 4:00 pm Hi all,
We haven't chosen our tiles yet but we need to get our loan approved so the builder M can apply for building permits. We need to put in an allowance in our contract for the tiles so the bank can approve our loan. We have no idea how much to put as an allowance. We are only have tiles the wet areas, that is, laundry and linen, powder room, bathroom and ensuite. How much did you spend? I guess we would prefer to overestimate than underestimate, just to make sure we'll have enough money in the end for any upgrades. Thanks! Re: Tiles - How much did you spend? 2Feb 26, 2009 4:10 pm It all depends how big the area is. We are tiling our entry, family, kitchen and dining after handover we were quoted about $6000 to do them by a tiler but instead we are doing them ourselevs well my dad and partner will do them therefore we are only paying for the tiles and grout and adhesive which is costing us all up about $3500... Our area adds up to about 75m2. Hope this helps! 2nd build here we come in Whittlesea! https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=92617 1st Build - Henley - Cooper in Doreen! I think we will definitely have feature tiles but not sure about gettgin porcelain tiles.. I guess we just want to get a rough idea of how much it might cost us. Thanks for your reply. I tried getting a rough estimate from a tile shop and was told to basically double the price of the tile per square metre to get an idea of how much it costs to purchase and get them laid. I was looking at a $45psm tile, so over 75 square meters it would cost me approx $6750. I hope this helps and my advice was correct! Good luck! Re: Tiles - How much did you spend? 7Feb 27, 2009 12:49 pm We are having about 110sqm of tiling laid. I have budgeted around $9500 to do this area. go to the tile shops and unless you want to do something different with the laying pattern then cost per square meter for the tiles is about what you'll pay on top for laying. Building a Riverview Bay Lodge with Ownit in Redland Bay Re: Tiles - How much did you spend? 9Feb 28, 2009 4:28 pm just back from Beaumont today and someone has suggested to us that our 600x150 tiles could cost $100pm to lay. That's on top of the $70pm supply.
We may change back to a 500x500 whereby they estimate $40-45pm to lay. This seems more in line with your pricing danen75. Can't believe we paid $30pm back in 2002 to lay 500x500 tiles diagonal ! We went to Beaumont tiles yesterday and the lady we spoke to said to budget a maximum of $10k. We probably won't spend that much but i guess it is better to overestimate than underestimate. We have decided to go for polished porcelain for floor tiles which will unfortunately cost us an additional labour charge. Not sure about wall tiles, we also wanted the seamless look, and we are considering using the same tiles on the floor and walls to get this seamless effect.
Thanks everyone for your help. [i]We built in Point Cook and are loving our new house. * 41sqm of 40x40 australian made glazed porcelain tiles for floor and walls in wet areas only (ensuite, bath, toilet, laundry) $34.95 p/sqm = $1433 + gst * We also purchased 27 30x30 sheets of a feature mosaic tile for the shower bases and bath hob $35.90 p/sheet = $824 +gst (we got a 15% discount) * 15kg grout $29 and aluminium trim for bath $25 Our tiler has quoted $4800 for installation, however this includes screeting (sp??) which we need to do to raise the level of the floor to match our floor boards. We also have to pay for waterproofing and that will be $1100. Ruth -Bought house in Melbourne inner burbs, knocked it down & now...we are owner builders!
