I actually like the look of tiles more than I do colourbond. I have just been for a drive looking at roofs and I think tiles can make a house look smarter (prob not the right word but can't think of any others) What is your preference? And is it because of how it looks or for some other reason? Re: Colourbond or tiles?? 3Feb 26, 2009 1:54 pm I went with Colorbond.. To me colorbond looks 'cleaner' (cant think of better word) .. and tiles look busy ..
and I love the sound of the rain -Sha Re: Colourbond or tiles?? 5Feb 26, 2009 2:09 pm I went with Colorbond too. I don't just like the look, security, and sound, but it'll keep the house much cooler in summer in Perth, and if I picked roof tiles in an off white, it would look gross where colorbond looks nice in lighter colours. Re: Colourbond or tiles?? 7Feb 26, 2009 2:31 pm Wanna I agree. I don't like the look of Colourbond either. I think the sound of rain would drive me nuts too but then others have said they really like that! And colourbond would have cost extra too. I love the sound of rain on a tin roof. Im from QLD aswell, where it really rains. Re: Colourbond or tiles?? 8Feb 26, 2009 2:43 pm As joles said - covered plenty of times

Re: Colourbond or tiles?? 11Feb 26, 2009 3:49 pm Hi,
I much prefer tiles too I think they make more of a statement than colourbond ( it they are done right and with the right colour scheme) . I like colourbond aswell. It just depends on your preference. I went for chocolate brown concrete roof tiles through boral the maquarie range. I have seen them on a few houses and look fantastic Living in Caloundra Thread****** Lovin my house all finished!!! But with a render I think colourbond would be nice. Re: Colourbond or tiles?? 14Feb 28, 2009 8:53 am Tiles for us.
That said, I think it is really just a personal aesthetic preference question. I really tried to like colorbond, but it just won't take. Thought about it way too much and the best explanation is that I think colorbond is too trendy whilst good colour/quality tiles are classic. I think colorbond does look better in lighter colours and ages better. Also does confer some cooling benefits in warmer climates. I do despise those thick old orange tiles that I grew up with. Yuk! Good news is, my builder has a high standard for their roof tiles so it isn't costing extra to get the ones I like. Re: Colourbond or tiles?? 15Feb 28, 2009 10:14 am At least you agree
Mrs zeke and I agree on many (?most) things but we're diametrically opposed re tiles vs tin. I went with her preference of c'bond for 3 reasons: 1. Our favourite display home was in c'bond - we've seen many built examples but none in tiles. Maybe because it's such a complex roof shape there would be problems doing some of the tiny sections in tiles. Some of the ridge caps would be very close together and maybe it just "wouldn't work" 2. We're building on acreage and tin suits the rural aspect 3. If I let her have a win on this, I should get a win on some other aspect. At least I don't "hate" colorbond Cheers zeke Tiles 16Feb 28, 2009 6:21 pm My husband would not even entertain the thought of C/bond, so it's tiles for us. At the moment we have tiles on the front half of the house and the added on reno has a tin roof. I think the tiles feel like they are more temperate and obviously less noisy. I think tiles are cheaper aren't they?
It's a personal thing, but it's tiles for us. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Colourbond or tiles?? 17Feb 28, 2009 7:12 pm emptyvessel estion. How long will it need to be around before it ceases to be "trendy". 150 years is obviously not enough, so what, 200 years???? Re: Colourbond or tiles?? 19Mar 02, 2009 6:24 pm Although they both have their advantages and dis advantages. It also depends of the external look of the home. Some elevations look better in one than the other. Concrete roof tiles life span are about 10 years.....that's why terracotta roof tiles are now coming back into vouge. Coloubond roofs last longer than concrete tiles, and as i said before it vomes down to the look.
good luck. Yes i guess this is one of the main reason as i checked one post foundation 4 9994 Cheers. The painted render is a bit chalky to the touch.
