Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 24, 2009 7:55 pm Our estate requires a couple of different finishes on the front of the house, so we are going to have face brick with a 2 course strip of render across the front. The builder we're probably going to build with quoted us a little over $1600 for, by my measurements, approx 25m of render, 2 courses thick. This sounds a little pricey to me, can anyone give me some indications of what I should expect? We're in Perth if that makes any difference.
If I can get it done considerably cheaper, then I might see if the estate will let us build it without the render provided we get it done within a certain time frame from hand over. Does that sound like something that would be done usually? Maybe they use different bricks for the rendered part, I'm not sure. Re: Is this expensive for render? 2Feb 24, 2009 8:22 pm I am not sure what you mean for the 2 course strip. i am rendering 20% of my front facade due to estate guideline, and i have been charged for $950, I am in VIC Blog - http://clageonewhouse.blogspot.com/ Building Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=10886&hilit=milan I am in, with my husband and my beautiful bunny Re: Is this expensive for render? 6Feb 24, 2009 9:03 pm hi there,
this is the way we are having our render. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ and for all this it was about 4 grand. Thanks for your replys guys, they were very helpful, I'll do some ringing around tomorrow. Re: Is this expensive for render? 10Feb 25, 2009 12:03 am JustinH Maybe they use different bricks for the rendered part, I'm not sure. Yes they do use a different brick for the render. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The front of the house is the brick that is normally used for the render, its 2c thick. Is the cost of paint/ing also included in the quote, or is that going to be another cost as well? Re: Is this expensive for render? 11Feb 25, 2009 5:03 am yea we have a different brick as well i think they call them commons
which are cheaper than your face brick. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ the darker ones are our face brick they are poa from pgh and the lighter ones are the common bricks Fingers cross the bricking starts to day John, Tarin and the Kids Built and moving in to the Regent Grande with Masterton homes http://thebrownsaremovingtothecountry.blogspot.com Re: Is this expensive for render? 12Feb 25, 2009 8:37 am I knew they used different bricks when the whole wall is rendered, I thought maybe because our walls are mostly face brick with a tiny bit of render they may just do it over the face bricks. I'll have to clarify that, still it doesn't seem like putting those bricks in should really change the price much.
Thanks for the pics guys. Monkeyupatree: I certainly hope that price is including painting, that's what I was led to believe. Re: Is this expensive for render? 13Feb 25, 2009 1:24 pm Yep I agree with JustinH...understanding that they should charge more per sq/mtr for a small fiddly job instead of a full facade, even a $90 p/sqm rate is still only $450 (ie: your measurement of 25m length x 2 courses of brickwork is 170mm = under 5 sqm)....??? I'd be asking a solid plasterer their rates and then knowing this, fronting the person asking $1600 for an explanation. BOOM SHANKER..!! - Neil (The Young Ones) Re: Is this expensive for render? 14Feb 25, 2009 5:26 pm Gee - talk about variation in pricing. We just got almost the same amount of render as House-To-Be. The plasterer charged us an hourly rate and it only cst about $300!! We must have got a bargain. Building in remote, regional Vic We have roof, frame, walls, plumbing, electrical....but no bricks! Re: Is this expensive for render? 16Feb 25, 2009 6:44 pm well we were told that they might send commons or the might just send face bricks.. that it was up to the brick place
so i reckon they will just use your face brick for it John, Tarin and the Kids Built and moving in to the Regent Grande with Masterton homes http://thebrownsaremovingtothecountry.blogspot.com Re: Is this expensive for render? 17Feb 25, 2009 7:02 pm I spoke to a friend who's Dad is a builder and he said that they just use face brick. So obviously it doesn't matter what sort of brick is used. I've asked him to find out how much his Dad would charge, I will update when I know more. Re: Is this expensive for render? 18Feb 25, 2009 7:06 pm Hope you get it figured out soon John, Tarin and the Kids Built and moving in to the Regent Grande with Masterton homes http://thebrownsaremovingtothecountry.blogspot.com Re: Is this expensive for render? 19Feb 25, 2009 7:24 pm overthebuildingprocess Gee - talk about variation in pricing. I assume PD makes a profit out of everything............ iTalk I'm getting charged $1,738.00 for partial render by PD , is that normal ? I asked for a full render and the SC said it'll cost $3.5K !! Really? For just the front or the whole house? I was told $40k for ours to be full rendered. We were never going to do that but I was wanting to know. Our neighbour is also building with PD, they have gone with Hebel and full render, wonder how much that cost Happy at Home Re: Is this expensive for render? 20Feb 25, 2009 7:32 pm House-To-Be Really?
