Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 23, 2009 4:33 pm I chose “natural” colour brick motar at colour selection with the expectation of getting gray cement looking mortar finish (right picture).
However builder going to use red colour sand as the brick motar sand (left picture). Do any one have experience of the end result of mixing red sand and cement? My commonsense tells me I’m not going to get the mortar colour of the attached picture (right). Please help! I would def take this up with your ss. Natural mortar is them using the standard sand for that area. Each area where they take the sand from will have different colour. EG up in queensland , the off white mortar is much whiter than down south, as the sand they use is much whiter. Find out where they are getting their sand from and ask if you can change?? Here is a pic of the brick in the pile of sand at the front of the block. What are your thoughts? Will it be a more grey colour?? I would say you are going to get a very nice mortar colour with that colour sand, will look good with your bricks. Natural mortar can range from creamy grey (yellow sand), Grey (with sand like yours) or orangey grey (red sand). Well done.
