Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 22, 2009 4:37 pm Hi,
Does anyone know how big the grout is supposed to be for 300x600mm porcelain tiles? Staff at Beaumont Tiles have advised me that the Australian Standards is for 3mm minimum, but I've also seen 1.5mm on porcelain. Anyone in Victoria that has 1.5mm for porcelain? Any help is appreciated. Thanks Built the Atlantique 37 Mk2 with Carlisle Homes - WE'RE IN!! We had a friend to do it. Our builder's tiler is crap, our wet areas have huge uneven gaps, some 3mm some 8mm ! However, our tiler friend has been doing it for many years and he did a great job. The reason why some people don't want to do 1.5mm grout is because it takes longer to push the grout into the crack and also making sure there is an even spread of grout. reply 3Feb 22, 2009 6:32 pm Thanks for your help. The tile spacers come in 1.5 mm space. Rectified tiles are "expected" to have 1.5 mm grout joints. Tiler preferred 3mm but we insisted on having 1.55mm only. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: How big is the grout for porcelain tiling? 7Feb 23, 2009 1:01 pm as long as all the tiles are evenly spaced, then it should look good...
problem is, unless you are there all the time watching the tiler (and p*** him off), how do you control that? reply 8Feb 23, 2009 3:26 pm Thanks so much for your help everyone!
The tiles are an upgrade for the powder room and toilets and bathrooms etc, to be connected to the same tiling done by us afterwards. We will be doing it in 1.5mm grout, just hope the builder can do this too! Good to hear you guys have 1.5mm grout - hopefully we can too! Built the Atlantique 37 Mk2 with Carlisle Homes - WE'RE IN!!
