Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 21, 2009 4:10 pm We are wanting to have our kit home on stumps. I have three questions:
A) Why does it seem (though my research) that melbourne has much cheaper concrete stumps (approx $70 per stump) as to Brisbane (approx $290 per stump) B) Is it possible to stump our own home or is it something that has to be done by a tradesperson, like eletrical wiring? C) Can anyone tell me what this blurb from our potential kit home is saying? Are they saying we don't need concrete stumps & we can do it ourselves; or something else entirley? Whereby most designs place the stumps in the ground, then place all the bearers & joists on the stumps, then erect the building on top, we instead extend the length of the main load bearing posts of the building. We then fit the steel bearers & joists for both the interior of the buliding & verandah at the required height of the posts. This method has proven itself both stronger, cheaper & easier to construct. Finally we supply extra coloumns to the bearers for streth, whereby the joists can be simply fixed to the tops of the bearers & the flooring fixed to the joist tops for maximum support & longevity.
