Browse Forums Building A New House Re: MUST Haves for the HOUSE 21Feb 24, 2009 12:23 am lol @ joles...yeah I've also been reading ALOT of scary stories about builders lately, even the so-called "reputable" ones!! One of my "must haves" would have to be raked ceilings to the kitchen and living areas of a home, as this not only looks great but also adds a modern look and makes these areas look and feel more spacious! Re: MUST Haves for the HOUSE 22Feb 24, 2009 2:19 am For us the must haves are
Alfresco HT/Games/Music room (and yes with Cat 5e/6 wiring throughout) Double shower and double basin in the ensuite Nice to Haves Separate kids play room Separate study Formal lounge Integrated fridge, microwave and coffee machine Double wall oven Extended garage to include workshop After 2 false starts, a year living overseas, two more world trips and 3 years of uncertainty we are now starting the build process again - hopefully for real this time! Re: MUST Haves for the HOUSE 23Feb 24, 2009 6:41 am - Alfresco under the roof line
- Open plan living - TV points / Foxtel Points (We have 3) - Phone points (got 3 of these) - High ceilings - Caesar stone to kitchen benchtops / bathroom / ensuite - Zoned ducted heating - 900ml upright cooker (i like to cook!) - Glass splashback - Mixer taps throughout - Fly screens to all windows and security doors to sliding doors - Face brickwork above all windows and doors Just a few things that we are getting in our house. All bar the fly screens / security doors were standard inclusions for us. Re: MUST Haves for the HOUSE 24Feb 24, 2009 9:38 am - H/C Water to Alfresco
- Gas point to Alfresco (No More gas bottles) - Extra Tap to rear of house (only 2 std and wanted one either side at rear) - Drainage to rear external taps (not the norm for the builder, sales person asked why?) - High Ceilings 8'6" - R2.0 through external walls and HT Room and Loos - R1.5 in the remainder of walls - Cat 5 to all rooms and alfresco - TV to all BR / Living / HT / alfresco - No Stone Bench - Broken too many things on them - Solar Roof Vent thingy (use AC heaps less with one in the roof) - CFL Down lights (use 80% less energy than regular downlights) These are the main things that the huggs n kisses and I sorted with our plans. still waiting on soil test and contract hope to get this sorted today. Re: MUST Haves for the HOUSE 25Feb 24, 2009 9:41 am Pugs meh... instead of phone points get network points instead.. even if you don't have / want a HT a networked home the capablity for a networked home is much better then having to pay 3-4 times later on Agree with this 1000%! We have 46 network outlets in our house and we have used 90% of them - not at the same time though! Re: MUST Haves for the HOUSE 26Feb 24, 2009 9:45 am Benny - snip. it is Cat5E or you get Cat6.. just though i'd add my 2cents I also bought land in Tarneit Gardens and we decided to go with Carlisle Homes. If your looking to find a builder with alot of standard inclusions trust me they are worth checking out. This was the first builder where I was amased to see the number of standard inclusions they have. AT the end of the day it was all the little extras that made us choose them. Hope the have a good reputation from what ive been hearing they have so fingers crossed oh we decided to go with the Atlantique 32 Carlisle Homes - Atlantique Mk2 32 sq at Tarneit Gardens Re: MUST Haves for the HOUSE 30Feb 25, 2009 12:55 am nh also, vent/duct your rangehood outside to avoid a beautiful house with cooking smell! Absolutely!! We don't have one where we're renting at the moment - and if you cook spaghetti or a curry you can definitely smell it when you wake up the next morning or when you come home after going out! Not great! After 2 false starts, a year living overseas, two more world trips and 3 years of uncertainty we are now starting the build process again - hopefully for real this time!
