Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 21, 2009 8:15 am Hi all,
Have been around for a little while researching we had our land handover in Nov 08 and been doing a lot of groundwork - thanks so much to this forum! We decided to go with Henley (atm) and building the Monterey. We asked for a site survey 8 weeks ago and moved into our rental 4 weeks ago - we were not to concerned but I started asking questions 2 weeks ago and they have only just sent to drafting with a whole lot of excuses - lost it, drafting busy etc it is now getting ridiculous we are thinking that if it takes this much effort just for a site survey that it might be worth going somewhere else! Porter Davis or Clarendon - any suggestions or people to talk to about this? thanks heaps - Re: Building with Henley Site Survey - 8 weeks +! 2Feb 21, 2009 8:28 am Stormy had a lot of trouble with Henley and how long they took.
Someone I know that works for another builder has told me they are getting a lot of Henley people coming through the door, because they are waiting and waiting and nothing's happening. Sounds like something's not quite right at the moment as a few forumites had quite efficient builds with Henley 12 to 18 months ago. They are ****** to you already, doesn't bode well for the future relationship. And even if they are telling the truth, they lost it??? they're too busy??? that means they are incompetent and have too much happening to do their jobs properly. A survey should only take a few weeks at most. I'd walk, but I have zero tolerance for builders at the moment. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Hence the feeling we should go somewhere else - I have built before, I know its no picnic but oh my goodness! surely at this stage when people are starting to walk they would look as to why!
Would your friends be going to PD I know the Illoura is similar - we are going for another look tommorow. Re: Building with Henley Site Survey - 8 weeks +! 4Feb 21, 2009 9:07 am Mmmmmm...
There is a lot I could say about Henley's lack of Customer Service in the post contract to site start stage...but I will bite my tongue, as they are now up to frame stage and working VERY quickly! I know where the problem was with the way my file was handled, and so do they, so it has been resolved 'to an extent'. We waited over 100 days since our home was demolished before they scraped the site...not happy. Please feel free to read all about my 'troubles' on my blog....you'll find it in my signiture below! He is building an Illoura, nearly finished, and he and Jackie have had a great build overall.
Back Pocket is also building an Illoura, no building thread, but you can go to her blog from one of her posts. I think they are both happy..... We were supposed to start building in Feb, but they started second week of jan and our brickwork is almost complete. couldnt be happier with them at the moment. Re: Building with Henley Site Survey - 8 weeks +! 8Feb 23, 2009 4:26 pm just an update - henley contacted us today and our tender is on march 13th! So they are doing quite well in my eyes! 2nd build here we come in Whittlesea! https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=92617 1st Build - Henley - Cooper in Doreen! Good luck, Annie A thankful person is a happy person. [/color]My hobby design blog: http://aviewondesign.blogspot.com/ Re: Building with Henley Site Survey - 8 weeks +! 10Feb 23, 2009 10:21 pm For those people who have done their colour appointment already...
Henley didn't happen to have a whole lot of glass splashback colours hiding out the back did they? Those two drawers dont seem to have many options... Re: Building with Henley Site Survey - 8 weeks +! 11Feb 23, 2009 10:44 pm Ari Henley didn't happen to have a whole lot of glass splashback colours hiding out the back did they? ( We would have loved to have glass splashbacks in the showers. As far as I can tell, the people who supply their showers do do this, but Henley refused our request. Just think - no grout to get mouldy. It would remove the worst cleaning job that we have to face. Ah, well. Re: Building with Henley Site Survey - 8 weeks +! 12Feb 23, 2009 10:53 pm We were very happy with the speed until after the tender. The contract appointment was made at the tender.
However, they made some mistakes in the draughting of the plans, including forgetting that one of the ensuite options, the one we chose, should have increased the overall floor space as the Master Suite's facade was extended out. We also asked about some fairly easy changes (in our eyes), such as an increase in capacity of the hot water service and air conditioning. Now we have been told that our contract appointment has been cancelled and they can't give a time frame for it being set up again. I'd love to know what is causing these hold ups after the tender stage. If they are not coping financially or don't have enough people on staff, then I'd prefer to know before we sign the contract so that we can restart our second choice before we lock ourselves in to them. Re: Building with Henley Site Survey - 8 weeks +! 13Feb 23, 2009 10:54 pm But then I wouldn't be able to pick a colour for the shower either
I remember Phoenix saying in a thread that henley had her colour with normal and starphire glass so you could see the colour....it looked like they didn't have that anymore from what I could see. In fact...they didn't even seem to have Phoenix and Stormy's Alencon Lace colour there at all. Re: Building with Henley Site Survey - 8 weeks +! 17Feb 24, 2009 6:45 am They only had about 2 brownish choices in the glass splashbacks when I did my colours back in June, which is why I chose the Alecon Lace instead. They'd better still have it, or I'll be getting the splashback deleted and I'll install after handover...
I was quite disappointed at their lack of range of colours too... I think it's pretty poor that they are unable to re schedule your tender appointment, fiffaro. We had endless problems with their 'draftspeople', plans went back and forth so many times it was getting ridiculous. I even had to draw them a picture to show exactly what it should be... ...I'm thinking of going there (Cosham) this morning and checking to see whether they still have alecon lace...you've got me worried!!! Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! Site start: 4th Feb 09 Handover: 10th Sep 09 Blog: http://stormygirlscastle.blogspot.com/ Build Thread: viewtopic.php?t=7166 more news 18Feb 24, 2009 7:00 am Hi all, thanks for your feedback - glad most of you are not having problems! We finally got our site survey back yesterday (not from our admin staff who could not even pick up the phone!) our sales person who is very helpfull sent it to me instead. It was full of errors - drafting were supposed to site 4 meters back - sited over 9 mm (but I don't know the measurements they were using because it certainly didn't match the measurements of the site!) I was very confused! They had the garage showing at just over 7 meters and it was 14! must have been having a bad day! refused to resite as the fall was 3.6 (if they had sited correctly or spoken to us it would be under 3 according to the site plan) - and as such it is a no build - we did our own measurements and whilst we could understand us being out by half a metre on one side we were out a metre and a half on the other????
Has anyone had issues where site falls are incorrect? it says our site has a 5-6 metre fall over it - which just not make sense - I can lie down and still see the fence at the back of the yard with is 1.9 m. We are waiting for engineering drawings at the moment to see if it is worth redoing the site survey - any suggestions? We just don't know where to go! Dont get too worried. Its probably still an option. One major thing I noticed at Cosham is that most customers dont seem to put things back when they've finished Lisa sorry about all your troubles. The site fall doesn't seem to make sense at all unless your plan is really off. I hope they haven't just put your block in the too hard basket A survey must’ve completed by a certified surveyor.
