Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 20, 2009 8:57 pm We have picked a kit home, it's 3 bedroom, very basic, 1 bathroom.
We need to get ideas of approximate costs of the following: Plumbing (septic & only can have tank water) Electical Wiring Stumping Fibro Walls Fly Screens ETC basically to be able to live in it. I know it could vary ALOT but any ideas would be appreciated, even just questions we need to be asking ourselves. Also any information on subsidies available to QLD eg: water tanks, insulation etc. Re: We have no idea... 2Feb 21, 2009 3:09 am From my (very) limited research a while ago, to get a kit home up to being livable was not going to be that much different in cost to getting a volume builder in, so didn't think it was worth it. It may be different for your situation though being on a (I'm assuming) rural property... After 2 false starts, a year living overseas, two more world trips and 3 years of uncertainty we are now starting the build process again - hopefully for real this time! Re: We have no idea... 3Feb 21, 2009 12:19 pm That is correct, it is zoned as a rural property. The kit home we have picked is called 'The Aussie Retreat' from Wide Span Sheds. This way we do have the option of owner building which I assume would save us a fair bit of money. Please correct me if I am wrong. Re: We have no idea... 4Feb 21, 2009 12:58 pm From my prior disussions with kithome
I am of the understanding that whatever the base price is for the kit, you need to double it to get your end price, this is what I was instructed to do by the guy I spoke to. Hope this helps. Re: We have no idea... 6Feb 21, 2009 10:47 pm hey serialstyler, just check out the instructions for the kit before you buy - i love the design you've chosen, can be very lovely, but my parents built a 6 x 12 shed from widespan late last year and their instructions were sooo bad (and no, mum & dad are not silly - mum is a draftsperson, definitly knows what she doin ) but she just found that the instructions for the kit were either vague or incorrect, and when you had to ask them for help their customer service was cr@p...do your homework chook! 2014 - Prepping to build the Soho 4 with Plantation homes, industrial style 2009 - Built the Brampton with Coral Homes viewtopic.php?f=31&t=15399&start=280 Re: We have no idea... 7Feb 22, 2009 10:28 am Thanks for the tips.
