We are having several double doors and our sparky, while actually on the job, picked up on this. His ideal solution? 2-way switches - one outside the room which is easily accessible when the doors are open and one inside the room which is only easily accessible when the doors are closed. So we went with this idea which is only a relatively small extra expense. Cheers zeke Re: Should we put a door on the Rumpus/HT Room? 22Feb 20, 2009 9:40 am H2b, where did you end up putting the switch, if you dont mind me asking?!
Zeke, how much did it cost you for a 2 way switch? thanks Idiots are fun, that's why there is one in every village! - Dr. House - Re: Should we put a door on the Rumpus/HT Room? 23Feb 20, 2009 9:51 am Our home plan is very similar to yours OP, and double doors to the rumpus/home theatre were a MUST!
This will reduce the noise factor while the kids are playing games consoles (read: arguing) and watching their movies and the room will serve as a home theatre once the kids get older and move on. We have used the same timber/glass french doors as on our master and lounge rooms, at the front the house. Re: Should we put a door on the Rumpus/HT Room? 24Feb 20, 2009 10:04 am wonderland Zeke, how much did it cost you for a 2 way switch? 2-way switching in other areas of the house has been costed at $60.00 per unit. Haven't had the exact cost of the back-to -back 2-ways for the double doors yet, but the extra wiring will be minimal, so I'd expect them to be even less. Cheers zeke Yep great idea, we will have this to our study as we added double doors in this room too. wonderland H2b, where did you end up putting the switch, if you dont mind me asking?! Zeke, how much did it cost you for a 2 way switch? thanks For our bedroom it's just next to the half door so it's still there as you walk in, they only had to move to forward about 20cm or so. The HT has walls on both sides as you walk in and the double doors take up most of this wall space. The light is on the front of the short wall (which is a void for upstairs cooling/heating) Our study is different so the switch is behind one of the doors but there is another faceplate on the outside of the study for the entry and outside lights. Sparky coming to make it a two-way for us next week. http://www.porterdavis.com.au/content/H ... orne42.pdf We weren't charged anything for our 2-ways with PD. We also added a dimmer to the HT and this was $60.00 She&He+3+3 This will reduce the noise factor while the kids are playing games consoles (read: arguing) With Zerosignals house I'd be inclined to have a two-way switch there is wall space there to do it. Hayman is a really nice house. I love the Mernda Display. Happy at Home Re: Should we put a door on the Rumpus/HT Room? 26Feb 20, 2009 10:49 am A home theatre isn't a home theatre unless you can close the doors! It is meant to be dark and quiet after all! I've seen plans with a sort of "double dog leg" entry way (I made up that term, let me know if you don't know what I mean!) and no door - it just doesn't make sense Re: Should we put a door on the Rumpus/HT Room? 27Feb 20, 2009 10:53 am Elzbeth If cost isn't a major concern, maybe consider a wide pocket slider (probably cost double your current quote due to the fitting and oversized door), that way you can control noise and light to create a better theatre environment. The sliding door can then be relatively hidden when not in use. Good luck! x1 This is what i will be doing , as its a claytons door, there when you need it but also not in the way all the time ... Re: Should we put a door on the Rumpus/HT Room? 28Feb 22, 2009 9:58 am I think we will probably end up going with a corinthian four panel door same as we are doing for the rest of the house.
Probably a cost issue for us on that one and we are not exactly sure what PD offer as other doors and what prices. If anyone has any ideas on PDs offering and prices for other door types that would great. On another note our land now has the guttering to the road so we should have access to the land very soon! Re: Should we put a door on the Rumpus/HT Room? 29Feb 22, 2009 10:14 am Great that you'll soon be able to access your land
As for the doors, we have the two panel downstairs and they were $80 each. I think the four panel ones were $70 or $77 (this was March last year). I've been to a PD house that has the four panel door throughout but they have used the two panel on the HT, it looked really good. Personally, I think hinged doors look nicer than cavity sliders in a living area. Cavities are good for ensuites and robes etc. Happy at Home Re: Should we put a door on the Rumpus/HT Room? 30Mar 04, 2009 4:08 pm Ok, so MAYBE the moment has passed But I finally found the inclusions list for the Inspired Homes place I was talking about earlier in this thread.
According to the list it says they are Corinthian Premium (Mirage 01) double doors with Super Grey glass and Gainsborough Sofia Lever door furniture. I have searched Corinthian's website but can't find a picture of it. Re: Should we put a door on the Rumpus/HT Room? 31Mar 04, 2009 4:30 pm Ok, I've found it!! I have a feeling there was an error on the inclusions list as the brand is William Russell (never heard of it?!) not Corinthian. Have a look at this link...

They're very nice indeed, but I believe they're around the $950 mark each, + $300 for each of the handles shown in the display home?
