Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 19, 2009 5:10 pm Hi everyone,
I usually post in the Owner-Builder Forum but it seems this one has a lot more action! Anyway, our progress so far is that we are half way through the brickwork and it is amazing to see how things are taking shape. I already want to put some furniture somewhere in the corner and move in!!! The journey to this point has been quite ok, with some minor problems. But this is what you would expect being an OB. This is my thread with photos: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=12704 All comments welcome. Nina "The fearless are merely fearless. Our brickies decided to work today and hence we went to see them in the morning. One of the walls in the bathroom was a bit too small (because my hubby gave them wrong instructions on the size of that wall) and I said I need it to be a bit wider. So they had to pull the whole wall down (to my defence it is only 1 brick wide) and start again. But they were not happy. I hope a bottle of nice bourbon solved the issue...
But it was a good lesson for my hubby not to make decisions on his own "The fearless are merely fearless. People who act in spite of their fear are truly brave" - James A. LaFond-Lewis Re: Our home in Forrestdale, WA 4Feb 22, 2009 4:46 pm Hi Saffie,

Another couple of days.
I am already in love with our house, and I cannot believe how spacious it is... I think when I came up with our design, I had no idea how big the house was going to be in real life. On paper it still seems smallish... Of course, things cannot go perfect all the time. Mu husband just rang me and said that they forgot to put the column bases. We have two large columns at the front and I bought special ornament bases to go at the bottom. The reason why he was there today was to make sure that they do not forget anything. It is too late now, unless we decide to cut the bases and then glue them together around the columns. I don't think it will look nice. Ah well, my hubby will have to pay for this one Today I will take some more photos and post them later. nina "The fearless are merely fearless. Whats the budget you gave them for your place? thanks, bernard Building in Harvest Lakes, Atwell (Perth) status: design phase with builder Re: Our home in Forrestdale, WA 8Apr 11, 2009 12:37 am I cannot believe we finally started our roof. And the electrician has been through our beautiful brickwork pre-wiring everything. It hurts to see how they have to cut through the bricks and now we have lots of holes in the walls. Ah well, I guess it is all part of the job… Cannot wait to finish the roof. And looks like we have chosen our cabinet maker. I went on Thursday to see our kitchen in 3D, it looks gorgeous. LaFond-Lewis Re: Our home in Forrestdale, WA 9Apr 11, 2009 9:30 am It looks horrible when the electrician comes through and cuts up the brick walls doesn't it. I was quite horrified as it felt like he'd vandalised the place. It still looked awful when the wiring went in as ours also cut out lots of bits ready for the plumber. But now it's all covered in plaster it's all ok again. We already paid for somfy motors for the blinds. The quote above was purely for “pre-wiring” so the blinds company can install the motors and blinds. That’s why we… 5 16073 of course there are legal avenues. You've already mentioned it. Sue them.
