Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 19, 2009 2:17 pm I have just come back from the house and the feature wall and whole theatre room have been painted in 'loft'. I absolutely love this colour, but on the walls you can CLEARLY see the joins in the plaster. I have spoken with the builder and he says that its because I chose such a dark colour.

I have to say, lets NOT forget that you have all that extra light coming in on the wall, and that’s what’s making it look even more pronounced. What window dressing are you having? That way you only paint on one type of surface. There is no other way to prevent this. using higher quality paints may help a bit. Re: dark feature walls.... help 5Feb 19, 2009 3:50 pm Did it cost you $850 just to have it painted???
was this charged via the builder? Solidarity, not solidity.......The Lexicon of Life Re: dark feature walls.... help 7Feb 19, 2009 4:06 pm Borg..We have used dulux 101 wash & wear paint so shouldn't be any problems with the quality of the paint. I mean ,why do they make such a dark paint if it cant be used with out it looking horrible!!!
John & tarin, we paid the painter directly to have this done. The painter himself has done a fine job with the cutins and such, just seems to be the plaster wall behind it. Mich.. not sure what window coverings we will be having in the family/dining rooms yet, but whichever way I go, the blinds(or whatever) should not be closed during the day just to make the wall look better!! We are on one acre so window covering isnt as high on my prority list as yet. Just spoke with the builder and he has put me in touch with a dulux rep. He will be meeting me onsite next thursday. This has nothing to do with the paint work……as to which your Dulux rep will tell you! Your problem is from the plasterer! I love how they love to palm it off to the next person. Anyone can see that the plaster has NOT given the join an even coat of plater. I hope I dont get that problem in my new house as I havnt used this builder before. Maybe if nothing can be done about it you could try painting the wall the same colour but in suade effects this may hide the blemishes more as its a textured paint. then that first colour could act as an undercoat. Maybe Michelle will have more of an Idea if this would work. Know where your going in life............... you may already be there Re: dark feature walls.... help 11Feb 19, 2009 7:30 pm Good thought…..but if the wall has a ditch in the paster work like that one has, it will stay there no matter what. Borg’s got the right idea…..but will the builder do it? It looks like my DH did it, I reckon I'd ring my builder and say "hey, if I wanted my hubby to do the plastering, I would have asked him, now get your blokes down here and fix this"!
I'm wondering how I could force (sorry, I mean coax) them??? Surely it would come under the 3mth maintenance agreement somehow, obviously you have probably signed the handover agreement to say all is good and well, but this flaw has only shown up due to being painted, but it's still a flaw??? It looks like my DH did it Agree. We have two walls in our HT painted Cumberland which is a Wattyl colour and I think myabe darker than your paint Seakyl. Our walls are perfect, there was plaster line that we noticed at PCI and it was fixed and re-painted by handover. Our room is very dark with the walls and carbone shag and heavy drape the same as the walls so I think even if the plaster finish was crap it would be hard to see. But if you will be having alot of light come in then I'd be asking for them to fix it. That's one reason why you should get your builder to paint the dark colours so they have to fix it! Happy at Home Re: dark feature walls.... help 14Feb 20, 2009 1:02 pm It's not just the colour that matter, the paint finish makes a difference too. But yours is just ** work. There are minimum standards - I think CSR Gyprock may have guidelines on their site.
Our family room wall is in Wattyl ID in a very dark colour, and the join is obvious in some lighting conditions. We had the plaster re-done and the wall repainted five times, and it's better, but you can still se it. With our venetians installed, it's pretty difficult to see and nobody else ever notices it, it's just that we know it's there. Besides, it now falls within the standards, so we have no grounds for argument. plaster 15Feb 20, 2009 8:00 pm Just wondering if can you actually FEEL those dips in the plaster? I mean it IS the plaster isn't it? I had marks on my dark wall and it was the line where the paint roller stopped (I did it myself ). When I went over it again they were covered.
