Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 21, 2007 4:18 pm How many times have I said that in my life!!!
A quick trip to the house today had me astounded to see our roof on! 2 days ahead of schedule. While I was very excited, I also looked at the roof and thought 'It's nice, but not what I thought it would look like'. After checking that they had in fact delivered and installed the correct tiles, I was mildly disappointed that the tiles I had chosen, aren't the same on mass that they are in the boral showroom (for want of a better word - seeing it wasn't a room, it was outdoors). I actually didn't think that the colour would be that dramatically different .... anyway, just a word of warning I guess. Try and look at a whole roof done in the sunlight before choosing your colour. Still very happy with it though ... hopefully it matches with my bricks!!! Glad to hear it's all chugging along You'll be so pleased that everything is finally underway.
We were a bit the same with our bricks...they look quite different in the sunlight (nice...but different). We're currently painting. It's a bit hard to believe we finish in less than 6 weeks (!!!) So, if it wasn't what you thought it would be, what were you expecting? Lighter in colour? Darker in colour? And this 'showroom' of Boral's - what was it like? Did they only show a few of the tiles together? Our bricks are with Austral (maybe they switched between when you were picking your stuff and when i was picking my stuff? ) and their 'showroom' displayed the bricks in a 2 x 3m format. I really hope it doesn't look too different! I thought the tiles would be darker. We have Macquarie 'Chocolate' tiles. So to put it in perspective .. I thought it would look like dark chocolate when in fact they look like milk chocolate Hubby to be and I headed down there after work so he could take a look and he said 'don't know what you were worried about, that's how I thought they'd look'. Maybe it's a girl thing! Anyway .. it's all good. They certainly looked different again in early evening than they did during the day. Happiness still reigns. We are about to build for a second time and are building with PD, it is sooooo exciting to be able to choose everything that you want but can also be incredibly stressful as well. Re: That's not what I thought it would be ..... 7Feb 26, 2007 12:46 pm Hi Amber
Hubby and I have almost finished building our first home with Metricon. We also have chosen the Macquarie Chocolate brown tile from Boral. I must admit I was also a bit disappointed with the look of it once the roof was on, It does look a lot lighter than in the showroom. Which brick did you end up going with? We chose 'Rouge' which is basically a reddy-brown colour and chose to have white coloured cement. Love your website. We took so many photos of each stage as well - I think I'll need a few albums to fill them. Good luck with the rest of it Danielle Re: That's not what I thought it would be ..... 8Feb 26, 2007 8:11 pm A bit of advice for all…..
When choosing a selection that will be external NEVER look at it inside. This will never be the true colour; you should ALWAYS take your samples outside to see how it will look in the sun, or in the shade. While choosing selections for internal, NEVER take them outside to look at them, this will also give you a false colour. How many times did I see people take a carpet sample out of the shop to look at the colour of that sample in the sun. It made me laugh, I just couldn’t help but ask them where lay laying carpet instead of lawn??? Always remember, if you are choosing a selection for a certain part of your home look at in the same lighting that selection will be going in or on. Never look at your external paint colours internally either, these too have to be view from outside, before you make the final decision. You will be surprised how much they will change once taken outside in the light. I hope this has helped. We ended up going with 'Old Maple Blaze'. My concern now is that the render colour I chose (to match the bricks and the roof tiles) may not look so good now!! Oh well .. just have to wait and see I guess. Worst case scenario is we repaint the render (only the portico) if it looks too gross. looking forward to your pics!
