Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 17, 2009 1:01 pm Hi all
Just wondering if anyone can comment on this. I am close to slab stage and since meeting with our SS on site (first meeting) on the 28th Jan I have not had one phone call nothing zilch. I may be being unreasonable about this but I just thought that they called alot more often. I did make a call after site scrap as nothing was done for over a week. Slab was due to be poured last fri (13th) but due to the heavens opening up in Brisbane it has been delayed. I have a feeling something is happening there today but again I will have to make that hr drive out there after work to check. Reason why I dont want to keep calling is due to the fact that my partner says I am harrassing them by calling them. What do you all think? Should I get ova it and accept the fact that they do not call us. Cheers! Re: How often does your SS / Construction team contact you? 2Feb 17, 2009 1:05 pm It is a difficult situation...
You have a right to know and it is poor customer service on their part... However if you do call and end up annoying him then you will fracture the relationship and possibly make it worse.. I would say you should give it a bit more time to see how it pans out and if no contact think of the best way to start the conversation.. Planning what to say can make all the difference in making sure you establish a good relationship. Re: How often does your SS / Construction team contact you? 3Feb 17, 2009 1:19 pm I would have thought that once a week would be a reasonable update, but if there were any problems then it could be more often.
Not calling at all is not what I would call good customer service even if everything is running smoothly. It's common courtesy to advise how a big job is going. We now have a blog. http://allaboutthebuild.blogspot.com/ ss 4Feb 17, 2009 1:23 pm hey guys,
we have a frame now, and still haven't had a meeting with our SS. We were told we would have one just after the slab, and then we asked again and they said that we would... and haven't heard anything! Building first home in Melbourne - Hilton NBG 24E (changed dramatically) inspection done... just waiting now for finalization!!!!!!! Re: How often does your SS / Construction team contact you? 5Feb 17, 2009 1:30 pm I'd be asking the SS for a copy of his project plan for the build. This way you know what should be being done, and when... Electrical Engineer... Don't hold that against me... And keen owner builder... Mainly the building part!! Re: How often does your SS / Construction team contact you? 6Feb 17, 2009 1:33 pm Thanks everyone.
andrew78m - Thats the way I am thinking too I dont wanna annoy them straight up. There is alot more bigger tasks to come. What im worried about really is just missing out on something. I wanna capture each and every stage. This is something massive for us and most people and Im not taking this lightly at all. Its my whole world atm, im at work thinking about it all the time and I cannot concentrate. cookies - I hope the meeting happens for you soon. Our SS was really nice when we met him and did say to us to ask the questions any time. Thanks chuth77 - I might investigate this one. Cheers! Re: How often does your SS / Construction team contact you? 8Feb 17, 2009 2:09 pm l was told by head office we would get called weekly, one week our CSO, and the other our SS that never happened, l remember once my SS ringing without us ringing him, and not once can l recall our CSO calling us! now to give credit where credit was due, when l did call either, 9 times out of 10 they got back to me, but still never made the first contact
l was the same, felt guilty about calling them, but at the end of the day, they are suppose to call us, if they dont you want to know so they need to understand you will call! as long as your not calling every second of every day you should be right Re: How often does your SS / Construction team contact you? 9Feb 17, 2009 2:59 pm ummm if i was spending hundreds of thousands of my hard earn money AFTER TAX ....
i'd be calling them everyday if possible, but if they don't call you once a week then i would just call them and i do..even to say heys whats the latest and greatest.... i also sat down with my site super and walked through the milestones and expected dates. we're in the same boat as you. We had our site scraped on 7 Feb and a bit more ground work done after that but haven't had anything more done since the 11th thanks to the rain. I hadn't heard from our SS until I phoned him for an update today. If I don't hear from him or see him on site, I'll be phoning each week for a chat. As long as you're polite they should understand that this is a big deal to you and you're just keen to keep up to date with everything. Re: How often does your SS / Construction team contact you? 11Feb 17, 2009 8:13 pm My SS / builder only called when he needed me to make a choice about something, I was happy with this as progress seemed to go reasonably quickly. I also had no hesitation calling when I had issues, but thankfully that wasn't too often Re: How often does your SS / Construction team contact you? 12Feb 17, 2009 8:21 pm Well for us,
We have become friends with our PM and he regularly comes out and meets up with us. But as for a weekly call no we don't get them only cause we talk to him often as he relies on us to give him regular up dates on things that have happen, cause he isn't out here every day. This meaning that he tells us what should be done when and if its done on the day he tells us and we don't call him he knows its all going to plan. He does call us up evry Friday and give a update what progress was made and what is planned for the next week.
