Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 16, 2009 10:25 am This might be a silly question but some people on here who have talked about beneficial features to include when building a house have said get brickwork above the windows......what does this actually mean? Is it when the glass of the windows is not flush up to outside wall of house - but rather indented with brickwork around them?? I'm confused!!! Re: brickwork above windows 2Feb 16, 2009 10:28 am I think it is when above the top of the window (and often the top of your garage door too) there will be a bit of timber/sheeting??? instead of bricks up to the eave.
It generally is agreed that it looks better if there is no sheeting but bricked like the rest of the wall. Our builder does the bricks over the windows/garage door on the front facade of the home, and the sides and back are with sheeting, we were ok with this! It looks like this (the window on the right) you can have it painted any colour, some ppl do it the same as the gutters to match.
we were lucky our builder provided brick infills everywhere as standard [/img] Re: brickwork above windows 9Feb 16, 2009 11:05 am Well, I was showing you what you get when you don't upgrade to get brick infills. You get those things instead. If you upgraded to get brick infills there, there would be bricks where the sheeting is.
Does that make sense now? Re: brickwork above windows 10Feb 16, 2009 11:08 am nessbc If anyone has an example of it done with bricks as opposed to sheeting I would love to see here you go ... this is our house, all the windows (and sliding doors) here have bricks above them instead of the sheeting... Re: brickwork above windows 12Feb 16, 2009 11:19 am don't worry you will learn LOTS in your building journey to come. A year ago I would have wondered what the hey you were banging on about. Now I consider myself quite the expert lol!
Jsut check on your elevation drawings that you are getting your bricks or infills or whatever you ask for, it should be pretty clear on them what you are getting!
